New changes that are going to happen

We understand the importance of off-topic discussions. We're just attempting to reemphasize the TLK discussions a bit more by cleaning up the mess of the den area.

Let me rephrase that.

I agree that some areas need to be cleaned up, such as the arcade and smarty pants subforums. I honestly don't care if they're deleted or not.

As long as the den section in general isn't totally deleted, then it's fine by me.

The only thing I totally disagree with is newer members not being able to post in the den. I don't understand how that would help.

Because people make their own Q&A threads and nonsense den topics and then disappear never to be seen again...
Until members have been on the forum for a month and have made a post count of 100 there will be no access to the den/arcade
1 Month? :/ Do me a favour, don't introduce this for a couple of weeks ;) Jks
Better hurry up and get my posts up to 100 then... 7 More to go!

No but seriously, I'm not actually trolling this time. :P I really don't like the idea of taking away the Arcade and Dens. I couldn't care less about the Smarty Pants forum since it always did cause drama and I think the community has proven that it isn't able to handle the opinions of others. But there is nothing wrong with the Dens and Arcade. As Flip pointed out, those sections provide members a place to relax and make friends when they aren't discussing TLK. And let's face it - not even the most die-hard fan can talk about TLK ALL the time. Honestly, I would blame the lack of activity on the fact that there is little to discuss about the movie anymore. There is only so much to be said about a 90-minute long film that came out seventeen years ago. It is really only the newer members/fans that post anymore because the older people have pretty much exhausted all they can say.
Which is where the Arcade and Dens come in. These off-topic areas provide a place for members to chill in-between discussions. Believe it or not, some of us aren't raging TLK nuts and would like to post in TLK topics only when we feel ready and inspired. Pressuring members to only post in one place would lead to a flood of poorly thought-out posts.
Besides, a forum is not only for discussion. Taking away the Arcade and Dens takes away the whole social aspect of a community and makes the whole site quite dull to outsiders. It's like taking away recess, friends, and lunch from school and dedicating all 7 hours of school to studying and work. People need a break from it all.

*steps off soapbox*
I declare this post: AWESOME

I will post my views later when I get home.

Because new members should be focusing on the TLK sections of the board. Otherwise, why would they of joined in the first place?

Also, you people seem to get the impression that we're deleting the entire OT board or something. We're not. We're just organizing it. In the end, there really wasn't much use for the arcade, since it was only really there are a spam board. Want to talk about counter-productive? Having a board for spam is gonna look bad for any typical new member.

And the Smartypants board was about the same as the World Issues board. We're just renaming it as to give it multiple needs. The topics that were deleted from there (which weren't many, like maybe 10 at the most), were also counter-productive towards the forum. New member joins and see's a bunch of topics where people are just fighting and causing drama, and they're also not going to want to join. Those topics aren't allowed anymore, anyways.

From a mods standpoint, I consistently see people make 1 post in TLK-related boards, and leave. So is it really fair for all those people that those sections aren't active? After all, this is a TLK board, and that's what it's meant for. We're keeping the OT areas, but we definitely need to crack down a lot in order to get some activity going. Quite honestly, if you don't want activity to be focused on those TLK boards, you really shouldn't be here in the first place.

There ARE actually general topic sites that you can join specifically just for chatting about everything. But this site was made with the intention of talking about TLK, and that is what we're trying to accomplish by making these changes. The few risks this could pose would be well worth it for any true TLK fan.

^THIS

Also I think the 100 post rule is fair, it gives people a chance to focus on TLK Section but the one month rule is something that should be reconsidered. I mean yes, it gives people a chance to look around at the other sections, mainly TLK Discussion. But one month is a bit much. If not remove it, then at least shorten it to say.. two to three weeks.

OK I feel I need to address this again

For starters we are not totally getting rid of the den and arcade. Infact in you look you will actually see that the arcade and smarty pants forum are removed already

I understand your point that 'everythings already been said' but only to a certain degree. EVERYONE has their own opinion about things. As for taking a break from discussion?....... really? break from what discussion? new members are just signing up and bee lining for the den. We understand the social aspect but this is my LION KING not my SOCIAL POST SPAMMAGE. We are working of ways to improve things but it would be alot easier on everyone if you understood what we are doing
