The Lion Guard (2015 / 2016)

I'm 18 and I have been on MLK since I was 13, and from my memory, there were a lot more older fans several years ago than there are right now since many of them left the forum. Now I'm part of the group of adult TLK fans, though there are some younger ones that have came recently or ones that have been around for a while.

I do hope to see Kovu and Vitani in the series, especially Kovu since Kiara will be an adult in the series (I believe she will be?) and it wouldn't make sense if he wasn't with her nor around the pride (if this takes place after the second movie). He's my second favorite character from the movies. Again, I hope this will be a good series and have us surprised. We just need a bit more information before we can really judge it.

No, that's the official information:

Disney Junior plans to launch The Lion Guard with an hourlong movie in November of 2015, followed by regular episodes the following January.

I'm sure Kion was born a few moths after Simba's Pride. So no he would not have been anywhere in Simba's Pride.

As we all know, all the characters in the TLK have names that have a meaning or significance in Swahili. (Mufasa doesn't have a translation, but it was the name of a real life Swahili speaking king).

There are actually a few canon characters with non-Swahili names, like Timon, Ed, Scar, Nala* and Zazu**, and even though Kiara does have a Swahili meaning...why the heck would Simba and Nala give their daughter a name meaning "finger"?

But it does seem like Swahili names have become the norm for the most part, though there are some canon and semi-canon exceptions (like the meerkats in TLK1.5 and nearly all of the characters in The Lion King: A Nature Fun and Learn series have English names).

*the Wikipedia page claims that the name means "gift" in Swahili, but I highly suspect that isn't true. Every English-Swahili dictionary I've checked over the years has no entry for "Nala". The closest match I could find was the Arabic name "Nahla", meaning "a drink of water".

**I've heard people claiming that it means "foolish", but to my surprise, I couldn't find an entry for "Zazu" in any of the dictionaries I checked. However, "Zuzu" (Zazu's mother's name in TLK:6NA) does mean "foolish".

Kion being born after the events of Simba's Pride does raise some interesting questions about what Simba and/or Nala were thinking at the end of that movie:

Word "Nala" could probably be "Old Swahili"

Every languages includes some words that are no longer in use and therefore they don't mean anything anymore. I tried to read about 500 years old writing in my native language and I couldn't understand it at all

anyway - I'm SO excited!! new characters...new merchandise...new movie...finally a TLK television series that will actually showcase lion characters
I think it is going to be VERY cute and I don't have any complaints at this point

Nala: This seems like a cause for celebration. Since we finally have time to stop worrying about things, I have a few ideas... *Nala eyes*
