New Animators new style thing

New Animators new style thing

Postby gothprincesskiara » November 12th, 2015, 5:17 am

ok everyone I know i said that we have to get use to the fact of new animators new styles. I didn't think of it much until now, after all the footage I have seen and the more I study the details and the animation the more I see things wrong, and now Im starting to get really upset and at Disney for the replacement of new animators and for changing almost everything, the list of things wrong just keep building up in my head, and it all came down to me doing some research on why Disney had changed there animation ways from the 1990s to now! for all the TLG haters now, I can see where they are coming from kinda when they say computer animation sucks, at least for the lion Guard it does, here are the articles I have read for the truth of why Disney changed it animation style.
http://www.theguardian.com/film/2013/ma ... -animation

http://www.retrojunk.com/article/show/4 ... -at-disney

Now as for my list of what they got wrong
Simbas eyebrows are too think
the lion size are not accurate
reflection in eyes are to big
there is not enough fur texture shown/ they look like rubber lions
paws are not exactly right

Now if there is one thing that REALLY STANDS OUT out from all this ITS HOW THEY ARE WALKING,
let me put it this way-THE TLG ANIMATORS CANT WALK THE TLK WALK. what i mean by this is, if you notice in behind the scenes were Kion and simba are walking, its completely off! way off!, they look like robots now! this turns me waaaaay off! and just ruins it for me all together. The walk is not as smooth as in the originals, and the way the lions walk they nailed in the originals (to describe it-they curl there paws sweeping the soil behind them and lift as a lazy lion would) but in TLG, they look like tip toeing robots. the way they made the characters walk in TLK was BEAUTIFULLY done and very smooth, but in TLG-pathetic, they have just turned me way off, it completely bothers me.

now is there any chance that this will improve or will be permanent for the series? cause if it is I dont know how im ever gonna get over this weird walk look, to me its just not the TLK way.

Truth is after everything I said about how they did this, im worried about TLG now. and now I just want to cry

Everyone leaves their job eventually and technology changes. That's all there is to this. TLG could look exactly like TLK if they had the budget, as digital work can be made to look hand-drawn. The difference is inevitable, and it's no use upsetting yourself over. It is what it is.

Animation styles don't really have much to do with the quality of animation itself. Had this been traditionally animated, it would have looked equally inferior to the original film due to the lesser budget and particular animators involved. The realism, fluidity, and complex body language wouldn't be there. Just look at Timon and Pumbaa for example.

As for the list of things gotten "wrong," that also doesn't have much to do with the animation style itself. It's more to do with the ART style and general visual direction they chose.

Then are there other franchises and fandoms that have changed there styles, if so give some examples, because maybe im just being stubborn and I still don't want to except change and differences. and can you really get used to something you hate at first?

Yes you can get used to something you hate at first, many such things being much more serious than the animation on a children's show. And there are plenty of franchises with changed animation styles over the years, just look at My Little Pony.

Originally it looked like this:

Now it looks like this:

The differences between TLK and TLG are much less drastic than that.

I didn't like the animation on 101 Dalmatians The series at first. but after I watched it enough I got used to it. It isn't fair to hold television series animation to the standard of a movie. The budget and amount of time spent on each is not the same. Perhaps you should try comparing The animation of The Lion Guard to the Timon and Pumbaa show. It is easy for me to say because I don't have an eye for art. I am just happy that I can recognize the characters for who they are. The size difference may be due to an artistic choice rather than an actual mistake.

I think the reason I have trouble excepting the new styles is because as an artist, I was always fascinated and had studied the animation and design of the original growing up and I fell in love with it and it was the reason I loved to draw TLK fan art, and ive always been for no its has to be like this/ this way, only because everything was so accurate, now its all just too simple, but I guess that simple is for the little kids, I guess its really gonna take time to get used to all this, I just hope the change will not be its down fall for fans or for people who re new to the lion king and thats my fear(sigh)

Personally, I love how it turned out. It could have been so much worse, like if they had done 3d animation, I probably would have cried. But this looks amazing, no, it doesn't look like the original. We shouldn't expect that, but SP definitely didn't look like the original either. I think that was more disappointing, because it looked like it was trying to, but it just didn't. This is being made over 20 years later, it's a children's tv series, and different technology exists for animation.

I'm really looking forward to it :dreamy:

I am no expert, but I think for television animation it looks great. While older Lion King fans may be put off by it. I suspect new fans that are introduce to The Lion King by The Lion Guard, will be awestruck :-o by how great the animation of The Lion King is.
