Something very curious about kovu in 'the lion guard'...

Postby Elton John » October 23rd, 2015, 9:02 pm

As i've mentioned before, I run the biggest tlg page on facebook. Someone recently sent me an image of a conversation between him and kovu's adult actor mr jason marsden. He said that the lion guard tv movie takes place in between the beginning of sp with kiara as a cub and her as an adult and could neither confirm nor deny him being in the tv movie or show.

BUT WAIT A MINUTE HERE

If he wasn't part of this project, how would he know all this? Saying that he can't confirm or deny his involvement is telling me that he is a part of the project but can't legally say it due to a timed non-disclosure agreement with disney.

Unless he was just lying to the poor guy, which I doubt since mr marsden is still on good terms with disney and doesn't seem to be the lying type only someone who gives vague responses to questions he can't answer like someone under an nda.

.... And if he's under an nda it's likely he is part of tlg.
Why do we fall? So that we can learn to pick ourselves back up again.

Kovu probably just doesn't fit within TLG's focus on Simba's pride when Kiara's a cub.

It is an intriguing possibility, but I doubt that Adult Kovu will appear in the series. I doubt Disney will time skip The Lion Guard forward far at least a few seasons. Perhaps We will find out about Kovu's Father...Even I don't think that is a realistic possibility. They could always cast Jason Marsden in an entirely different role, but would they?

Theres a lot of thought being put into all this and it probably isnt necessary. Simbas Pride doesnt fit anywhere. Disney just threw it out the window and recycled Kiara (and you can tell by the trailor that they changed Kiaras whole demeanor, shes not even the same Kiara). This is just a replacement sequel to Lion King 1.This is a common pattern with Disney, any extension of Lion King is always continued from the first movie. TLK 1 1/1, TLK2, The TLK books (the series with Kopa, and thats a whole other argument but im not gonna get into that one) and now The Lion Gaurd. They all are sequels to Lion King one and they all have no connection to each other. Its clear that Disney doesnt want to create a chronological universe around Lion King, which makes sense in a way because remember that the whol world fell in love with the original Lion King movie. Everyone grew to love young Simba, timon & Pumbaa. They are the most popular characters, making a whole continuous story takes that all away. Thats why Disney always makes a new story rather then following an order. You never go into the Disney store or Disney world and see toys of Kiara and Kovu, its always Simba. These theories make great fan fiction fun, but thats it.

I remember having Kovu sheets years back, but I see your point. If anything I'd say LK is closer to Zelda's universe except none of the paths intersect.

Lol, is it just me or is Kion the ugliest Lion in history. He looks so try hard, his stupid mane (yes that sounds mean) looks like it's trying to represent a mo-hawk and his nose is so pushed into his face it makes his face looked squished. And don't give me that he's a growing lion bull because the makers could have made him look however they want.

Also this is awful, utterly utterly awful. It is not TLK enough at all. It's some generic modern take bull crap take on The Lion King. Oh god why can't they go back to the old ways! There's a reason it was so popular. God damn it, Kovu won't be in it. Lets face it. With every new thing that comes out I am less and less hyped, I'm sorry but I feel everyone is so deluded by it that there expectations are way to high. I apologize for his post sincerely but I needed to rant.

Of course it's not going to be like the first one. That was a major movie production, this is a tv movie on Disney Jr. That being said, I'd say this is looking pretty good for a tv movie, especially if they plan to keep this kind of quality throughout the show when it's released. I'm looking forward to the story, especially since they are taking it seriously, not the [censored] show that was Timon and Pumbaa. When it all comes down to it, it's a kids show, and it's going to be catered towards kids.
Plus, it's been over 20 years, we do things different now in animation, we have new technologies and new techniques.

And I think Kion looks a lot like his grandfather, and I think that's pretty cute.

yeah, this is probably true but still incredibly disappointing IMO. for all its faults, SP was a good straight-to-VHS sequel with some really good characters and it's sad to see it not being respected fully. the idea of Kiara's name and general design being recycled into what is essentially a new character is almost - almost - more disappointing than if they simply hadn't included her at all. (but maybe the TLG version of her will end up being more like we know her to be from SP? time will tell....)

it's also just a little weird to me that they wouldn't care a bit more about continuity. seems like it has the potential to disappoint/confuse kids who watch both SP and TLG. i mean, i'm sure many of them won't really care but that seems like the kinda thing that would have REALLY irritated me as a child, lol.

I have not given up on the idea that The Lion Guard could yet be made to work with Lion King 2, it is set within at the very least the time frame of Lion King 2 to some extent. So there is at least a possibility that Lion King 2 won't be completely retconned out of existence.

Kion: HEY! I am not an ugly lion! I'm the most handsome cub in the Pridelands, and a prince! Boy, if my father heard you say that about me, i don't know if even Rafiki or my mom would save you from punishment, dad takes these things seriously you know >:(

Oh and about the creators making his design however they wanted, you aren't far from the truth. You know why? Because it's their work, and they could have made him look worse for REAL, if they actually "tried hard".

I think you're refusing to take your nostalgia glasses off. Yeah the Lion King was a great part of our childhoods, but not everything stays the same way forever. This show in general is aimed towards a new generation anyways. I don't even think your really trying to give the show much of a chance either. I'm still gonna watch it regardless.

We are not deluded. We simply enjoy and love the fact that we are getting new content for our favorite childhood movie franchise even if it's gets all mixed up. You should be grateful that Disney in general still cares about TLK franchise, and wanted to continue it even if they don't want to make it chronological, and at any point in time, they could have just stopped making TLK content and took all the merchandise and everything about it away and ditch the franchise in general. And just remember this, it could have been MUCH worse. It's could have been a Dora the Explorer, or "Go Diego, Go!" clone. I'm not mad just FYI, i'm only stating my thoughts on how the fandom keeps overreacting negatively to TLG.
