New episode 'Lions of the outlands'?
As stated before, the VA for Zira died :( It's unfortunate as she has a deep, raspy voice which kicks major butt for a villain song and I can imagine the original VA singing this. Awesome. The original VA for cub Kovu would have a deep voice now and not the little boy voice. Kovu is nearly a teen lion so the voice is not too bad here rather than the cub voice. At least it's adult Kovu's original VA.
that what I said ;)

I've been avoiding posting in this thread for awhile because I feel like everyone's already said everything I want to say! but this WAS the episode I was waiting so excitedly for, for such a long time, so I'll comment and just apologize in advance that I'm probably reiterating a lot of what's already been said, lol.

overall, I liked it quite a bit. the triple whammy of seeing Jasiri, seeing more of Jasiri's adorably accented hyena family, AND seeing the Outlanders was enough to make this a very high ranking episode for me.

I think all the Outlanders looked very good in TLG's visual style. it's a shame about Zira's headstripe, but what can ya do. I particularly enjoyed the animation on Zira and Nuka, and it was intriguing actually to see how they animated Nuka. their attempt at capturing his jittery, expressive way of moving in this more limited and lower-budget animation style was simultaneously very cool and a little out of place, haha.

no complaints from me on Zira's new VA, as much as I miss the original. her song was great and I think they actually did a very good job of capturing her personality, for the most part. it's incredible, after all these years, to get even the tiniest bit of new info about these characters, so the small details of the Outlanders' exile and of Zira's friendship with Scar were exciting to hear.

the end was so disappointing, though. I wish there had been more of a cliffhanger here. I hated how Bunga just quickly reminded Kion of the real reason Scar lost the roar, and Kion was just like "oh yeah ur right" and instantaneously defeated the whole Outlander pride......the whole concept of Zira knowing more about the roar than Kion does and using that fact to exercise power over him is SO good and interesting and I want it to have been more drawn out. I hope these characters will reappear again in the future - it makes sense for them to, since Kovu mentioned knowing Kiara, and Zira is obviously a super important character able to influence Kion's life quite a bit. I actually feel like it'd be great if they were very frequent recurring characters, but I'm sure that's a pipe dream. at least a couple more appearances, however, feel necessary.....if the TLG crew abandons the SP characters and the very intriguing stories they have potential to create, it'll be a big failure on their parts IMO.

but yeah, I'm overall just thrilled to have the Outlanders back and glad they have almost completely stayed true to how they were in SP. even if it is a flawed episode, the fact that the episode exists at all is a dream come true for me! now bring on the merch, disney!!
I personally I feel Kion and the roar are becoming way too ridiculously overpowered now it can create rain too. If it can make clouds rain then in theory it could make them unleash lightning too. So Kion's roar in theory can cause what are almost typhoons, create earthquakes, create rain, very likely unleash lightning, potentially move mountains, basically split the sea, and can even be used as a concentrated sniper attack to avoid hurting others. How can anyone beat Kion with such an overpowered ability.

Seriously I don't blame Zira for losing so easily Kion could've won the final battles from both movies single handily and he could've done it easily. If there is to be any future tension at all they either have to nerf the roar dramatically, take it away or use it's growing power as a plot point and main struggle for Kion because if they don't there is nothing that can even remotely threaten Kion seriously this single cub is so powerful he might as well be a god.
I agree quite a bit and I think this is very well said! I was rolling my eyes at how easily Kion was beating up adult lions in this episode, even without the roar, but I guess it's time to just accept that part of his character is being inexplicably, unbelievable strong and practically unbeatable. lol. I hope the show will address this problem and do something interesting with the Roar. or at least show something to remind us that Kion is a cub and still a bit vulnerable and immature.

I agree. I'd love an episode where Kovu sneaks back into the Pridelands just to try and see Kiara, and succeeds. Everyone wanted Kovu and Kiara to see each other before we knew much about the episode. So many were expecting it that I posted telling people that Kiara may not be in the episode at all. I didn't want people to be disappointed when they had been so sure it was going to happen. And now, with Kovu being so adorably excited at the thought of seeing Kiara... C'mon writers, the episode could be nothing but Kovu and Kiara hanging out and we'd eat it up.

I'd really love to get more from Vitani. She's been so woefully underused, I could spend 20 minutes on a day in the life of Vitani and finally feel like I know her more. Then again, I'm having trouble coming up with more reasons for The Guard to interact with the Outsiders, and while I wouldn't be opposed to an episode without The Guard in it, I feel like they'll probably never go that route. But c'mon writers, give us one or two more excuses to see the Outsiders, pleeeaaasseee? :cheese:

I wonder why Zira didn't have her stripe in the episode. I'm assuming they just couldn't get it to look right. Seems kinda odd, though, because it doesn't sound like something that would be that difficult to do, but then again, I know nothing about what the animation process for each episode is and what the limitations are of the programs they use. It's a very minor nitpick, though, and I wouldn't mind if Zira's stripe never shows up, if they do use her again.

Seriously though ,Kion needs some effective Kryptonite (tm) to keep him from just using the roar all willy nilly. Best example where something like that was done right :Smallville. Clark Kent obviously already had his superpowers, but all throughout smallvile itself there were meteor rocks containing kryptonite,so he could be potentially knocked out and make the story more suspensefull.i have no idea how they could do this in the lion guard. Maybe give kion an allergy or something XD

Agreed but I don't know what they can do since the roar doesn't have a weakness. Kion really doesn't have a weakness either. Him not using the roar is illogical but it's become so powerful it drains all tension I don't think the writers considered how much of a corner this could write them into. Good example with Smallville but it went beyond just kryptonite Clark couldn't control all his powers for many seasons, certain villains could counter his powers with magic or just had an ability that could match them once he actually reached Superman levels the villains just became alien threats as powerful as he is.

It's pretty telling that Kion a small cub is coming off more overpowered than Superman, flippin Superman! The guy who can move planets and survive supernovas and yet he is not as invincible a hero as Kion is being depicted as, how does that happen!?

Finally with how powerful the roar is who decided it was a good idea to give that much power to anyone yet alone a cub. Kion could conquer the Pride Lands there's the whole evil loop hole but Kion didn't lose the roar when he used it in anger and hatred. Even if the kings do take it the amount of damage that could be done in a single evil act is catastrophic. Who would give this kind of power to anyone how will this power not corrupt them, how could handing someone that much power not backfire?

It has corrupted and backfired in the past :roar5:

I don't think Kion will become corrupted though. For how concerned he is about becoming like Scar, kid doesn't have an evil bone in his body.

That's the scary thing Kion doesn't have to have any evil in him to be corrupted a need to protect everyone can send you into the abyss just as easily as selfish intentions in fact it can do it even faster.

Kion is a guardian dedicated to protecting everyone he has never suffered a true failure what happens when Kion fails to save someone what happens when Kion watches someone die. What would Kion do if he was in a no win scenario where he has to choose who lives and who dies where there is no saving everyone either choice will lead to someone's death. How would Kion take this? How would Kion react if Kiara and Simba didn't listen to his advice and as a result people died?

What happens when Kion is caught between his desire to protect people and his morals? What happens when his morals begin to cause innocent people to die or if his family's actions begin endangering his home? Kion's morals and uncompromising beliefs are the exact recipe for an well intentioned extremist who does what he thinks is necessary to keep everyone safe. In a less black and white setting that would actually challenge Kion morally and emotionally there would a great danger of Kion's need to protect everyone turning him into an extremist.

Kion is the Captain America of the team in more ways than one.

Besides being a natural leader, he sticks to his own moral code. Captain America doesn't fight with a gun, but instead a shield, symbolic of him being a protector for those who can't protect themselves. Kions power isn't based on claws or teeth, which would go against the captain america parallel.

A weakness that disables the roar can be as easily abused as his roar.

A test of his moral fiber would be like.... what if Jasiri entered the pridelands? What if Simba became aggressive towards her? Does Kion protect his friend? Does Kion use the roar on his dad on purpose? Or does he let Jasiri get hurt...
Why do we fall? So that we can learn to pick ourselves back up again.
