Are preschoolers dumb? No. Have you enjoyed the Lion Guard up until now. It seems you have not. I observe, I write my thoughts here, that's it. I do not think preshoolers are idiots.
you gonna want to sit down for this review, its loooong.

I can't enjoy the show that is done for dim-wits.
I don't understand why in TLK it was possible to show death, fights and some serious drama although it was done with rating PG and small children are not scared by it. The SP contained some slightly scary (with a hint of scary) scenes and it was okay to show to small children. But in TLG- NO! Kids can't see violence except stupid growling and head-kicks. Where is logic?
Looks like im just going to have to continue to say it over and over again till people feel better, I am a stubborn lion king fan that wants more out of the movie I love an worship :eyeroll: , and if Disney gives us lemons we make lemonade, I have learned to ease my way into getting use to the roar and I am not fully 100%, or even Fuli’s design, and im STILL waiting for a behind the scenes explanation from the creators on details of the show. Don’t forget this show is for ages 3-7, THREE! to 7, now, think what content does a 3 year toddler go through?, should they learn violence at this age? NO!, I remember hearing someone saying that Disney is trying to tone down on violence on kid shows, and I couldn’t agree more on that, ESPECIALLY now after you know who (Voldemort) was elected (yes that is what I am calling him now cause it fits, and I don’t want to hear his name in my domain, and I will not argue with anyone here on that-moving on!) This is why I don’t get into too much wishful thinking or read anyone’s high expectations, because again, those who did not like this episode, hey THEY AT LEAST brought back TLK2, would you rather them not at all?, this is even MORE better than nothing, I always have to remind myself, ok this is a show for ages 3 to 7 year olds, and with 3 year olds in mind you have to keep in mind, PLANE AND SIMPLE. Toddlers shouldn’t be watching PG-13 movies yet so that’s why this is the way it is, are any of us 3 year olds hear? Cause some are acting like 3 year olds having tantrum fits about the show. Again the person that voiced the TLK 2 Zira died, so at least they managed to find voice actors that are as close as they can get to the originals, DEAL with it!
Now as for my review and making this episode work with what we have…..I start by saying I love seeing bunga and Kion playing just being best friends and all, Im glad that the show doesn’t always start with the guard on duty all the time, it’s so nice to see them taking it easy and having fun too, I love that. Winner Winner, Zebra dinner for this episode, I like that line Im goanna have to use that one in my role plays. Loved how Jasiri jumped out of the bush as in a way to say SUPRIZE! IM BACK MY FANS!. Now my first question was for a long time now why would Simba NOT tell The Lion guard about Zira and her outsider pride? I will get to that and explain for those who may not have listened carefully. And Im surprised no one mentioned the CUTE ADORBALE LITTLE HYENA PUPS that’s a FIRST for the TLK world, SO CUTE though they do look a bit overly cartooned and not what should be TLK stylized, oh well they did their best with that I guess, I’ll take it, actually they look just fine for TLG hyena pups. You know I kept thinking to myself, why is Rafiki in the lion guard lair a lot?, maybe doing TLG work with the guard. I wish they would show an episode where he is in his tree. Anyway well we now learned that Pride Rock is even bigger on the inside underground of the lair, I mean for them to have a training running track below pride rock itself? That’s cool and it makes me want to explore pride rock even more than before. I liked how Ono brought in some speed knowledge that was a good educator moment for the kids, good one Disney. Now we can make Kovu’s adult voice work, simple, Kovu is at the teenage years before his mane will fully develop, as you grow up your voice gets deeper in puberty, there you go, he is going through a HUGE puberty growth spurt, plus he did say he would get to see Kiara again what does that mean? He has a crush! Well before Zira brainwashed him into training him to be the killer of Simba. Kovu wasn’t exactly thinking the same as Nuka when Nuka was thinking more evil then Kovu of course, do you even get what im saying with that? Now I’m sure this means Zira already heard that Kion was born of course, and im sure she somehow figured out that Kion would have the roar because of her knowledge history with Scar. Now my question was even Zira knew about the roar, What whas the purpose of roaring to making a rain cloud? And why? And how would that play into scars rule? I mean there is so many possibilities for this new peace of the roars power? And if the roar can make it rain, then how did scar use it if Zira new about this???????? That could have helped the drought that scar caused, I find this part of the show pointless. And can I just say I’m LOVING the way Zira is looking, she looks pretty darn good in this version, I’m extremely impressed with her look in this series, im satisfied with it, except the teeth the dull teeth are starting to become an eye sore, I wish they would fix this next season but I doubt it. LOVE THE SONG WANT THE SONG, BEST SONG IN THE WHOLE SERIES, it’s totally a step up from the rest, more dark and more beautiful then ever, how can we ever get a hold of these songs, I WANT THAT SONG I MUST HAVE IT! GIVE IT TO ME NOW!. I can see what Zira is doing since she was not surprised when finally meeting Kion and somehow knowing that he had the roar. She was tricking him in to making the choice of Lions or Hyenas, in order to join her outsider pride to use the roar against them, and then use it to lose it, then Kion and his team would be vulnerable and weak against Zira and her outsider pride, Zira planned this in order to destroy the lion guard, and then continue focusing on training Kovu to kill Simba going into TLK2. This is why Simba did not tell Kion anything about Zira or the outsiders. Now I’m sure Rafiki was upset to hear that Kion and the guard ended up having to be told about the outsiders because as Rafiki had no choice now since it was too late after Jasiri came to tell Kion she needed help, either way it was going to happen sooner or later till they would run into and meet with Zira and her outsider pride. So Rafiki realized that he had no choice but to explain to the guard about the story of Zira, in order to say that that if Zira ever met Kion then it could be dangerous hence Zira trying to trick Kion into using the roar for evil to take the guard down. Notice how that cave entry that Zira takes Kion to looks like the top of a lion’s head and mouth with sharp teeth?. How can you not love Kion when he says he is on the Circle of Life side YEAH! THAT IS WHY IM A LION GUARD FAN GO KION. Now when Zira said that she and Scar were very close, it only once again says that Zira and scar had a relationship and were loyal to him, as indicated in TLK2, SIMPLE AS THAT LEAVE IT AT THAT! DON’T THINK ANY MORE OF IT!. Notice how Nuka said “ oh im not planning to play at all, that was pretty dark as if you assumed what Nuka was going to do to Jasiri. Now last but not least, im trying to make sense of Zira saying our new home when they were already in the termite infested outlands before the song we are one. but my guess is either she was being sarcastic and they would migrate throughout different part of the outlands and circulate to returning to other parts of the outlands, but im also up for other ideas for explaining this last part. It’s great that we got to meet some new characters that im sure everyone will pick from. Im pretty satisfied with this episode, well done, well played out except tiny things that could have been fixed, but mostly I loved this episode Really enjoyed love it 10 out of 10, 97% grade. Praying and hoping them we will be seeing more of them. Wooohoooo!

Um??? Who's throwing a tantrum?
And the original Lion King is rated G but still manages to have lots of depth. no child is gonna have nightmares from the lion king, there's no reason it needs to be toned down even further so the kiddos won't be traumatized. I know I was watching TLK over and over since before I remember. And other movies that tackle complex issues like The Iron Giant. I may not have fully understood everything my favorite movies stood for when I was little, but there's a saying: "If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room." There's nothing wrong with showing kids things they might not fully understand yet that they'll grow to grasp later, and they'll have a greater appreciation of the classics when they go back to revisit them. Good children's media has themes that appeal to adults as well.

I mean, they're basically the same accent since Australia as a country is essentially an outgrowth of a British colony. Although, Tano was voiced by an Australian(?) guy.

This was definitely one of the best episodes, but it was weird in some places. Kion having been born some time after Kiara was, is something I had believed to be the case, and this confirmed it. So we now know that Kion was either a newborn at the start of SP and thus way too young to be out playing with Kiara, or else had yet to be born entirely.

Still, I guess Simba never told his son about the Outsiders despite having been so severely concerned about them in SP? :? Perhaps after the whole Kiara incident, Simba took action to try and drive the Outsiders further away, and they were no longer of concern for him? Perhaps Zazu keeps a look out for them and they had simply been gone for a long time? At the very least, it helps explain why Simba seems more lax in TLG.

I do dig the idea of the Outsiders being nomads, as seems to now be the case. They clearly hadn't been in the Outlands for some time.

I LOVE that we finally get a canon answer as to how exactly the Outsiders came to be exiled.

That ending, though. It made no sense. Zira acted as if they had never seen that place, even though "My Lullaby" took place just some... months? years? prior. (I know it doesn't take that long for normal lions to age, but TLG seems to be pointing to them aging slower, closer to how humans age.) Worst reference to the films in TLG thus far.

I don't get it why it is possible to show head-kicks but not paw-swapping or something like that? Why is it possible to show someone being pinned down or thwon away like a ball by Roar but even slight imitations of real lion fights are not shown? Hm?

From my point of view throwing away animals with Roar IS violence. But no one cares...

It probably has something to do with the ratings systems that either Disney itself, some other organization, or the MPAA uses to determine what is "violent". (And of course the MPAA's system definitely has some problems.) The roar is probably something that's more tolerable to them because it's literally a hands-off approach to ending a fight, whereas actual claw-to-claw combat -- let alone a situation where biting is involved -- isn't considered tolerable to show to younger children at this point if the program is going to air on a channel targeted at those audiences. That or it may actually be harder to animate full fight scenes like those with the models they have; I don't know, it could be a combination of both.

I agree it is violence. Not like, gritty ultraviolence or anything; it's probably the softest violence you can find, but still. But, the distinction is that it's also fantasy violence. It's along the same reasoning as why you see laser space guns in a lot of cartoons, but you don't see normal guns. If it doesn't exist in real life, there's a distance from it in our minds. That's why the Roar gets a pass much more than physical fighting does.
