I don't think it would be better if Simba stole her cubs and then exiled her, though. That would be terrible for both the cubs and her. Just because Simba told her to leave his Pride doesn't mean she deserves to have her cubs stolen from her.

I've always assume Nuka was at least a teenager in lion terms, because a lioness can't have cubs until her prior litter is 18 months old. A male's mane begins to grow at 10 months, and by 18 months, he'd probably already be thrown out by the pride males or near it. He would be more than old enough to choose if he wanted to leave with Zira or beg Simba's mercy, and if Nuka was as loyal to Scar as his mother, it would be a good reason to exile him as well.

If you assume Vitani is older than Kovu, they both had to be born according to Zira, "hand picked by Scar to become king," as she said. Scar can't hand-choose a cub if he's dead. Unless he picked Kovu based 100% on looks, which I doubt, Kovu would have to be a few months old at minimum to impress Scar with his personality.

I always assume Kovu and Kiara's relative size in SP was because Disney wanted him to look tiny compared to Simba. With that mane tuft, he had to be at least ten months.
