I think the books will be canon and will be based on show episodes. After all they are released oficially by Disney (not on Diney's license like tons of unofficial comics and books) with Lion Guard crew working on them. At least that's how it was in Meet The New Guard book.

Then that will likely be the case for stories that are based on episodes of the series.
