I can't help but feel like Simba sounded like a huge jerk at the end there. He seems a bit more attached to Kiara than he does Kion at this point.

Yeah Simba keeps coming off as a jerk. Apparently Disney thinks he has to be mean to his kids in order for them to be interesting.

I really don't think Simba is being mean, he is just guilty of not being able to recognize that animals besides lions could have something to contribute to A Lion Guard. Also since during Mufasa's reign The Lion Guard was composed of Lions, of course Simba is not going to want Kion's Lion Guard do be anything different from what it would have been when Mufasa ruled.

Simba is just being protective. He lost his dad at a young age and he probably wouldn't be able to handle very well the death of another family member due to carelessness.

I think someone here mentioned simba has ptsd which i'm inclined to agree. Makes him a bit more of an interesting character after his arcin tlk1.

PTSD and being protective explain his actions in SP, but implying that only lions can protect anyone is a totally different thing. Considering he was raised by Timon and Pumbaa it also comes across as hypocritical as well as closed-minded. He's not trying to protect Kion by restricting who can be on his team. He may not be intending to be a jerk, but he certainly seems to be being one.

It's out of character for him to react this way to other species. If he truly wanted Kion's protection, he'd be glad for an assorted team fit for multiple situations instead of scolding Kion for doing what he was told.

Maybe he feels that the traditions set by his ancestors are the best way to handle things? Seems that way, which is a stark contrast from when he was just a cub.

He did place a lot of value in sp in upholding his fathers law.

I think Simba here is a symbol of tradition. And Kion stands for new sight and new way. And when tradition meets new way, sometimes it does conflict harshly. Perhaps Simba tries to maintain the way his ancestors work on. But I don't agree with PTSD theory. I think Simba just regards Kion as a playful cub. And just like what Simba and Rafiki discussed before, Simba still thinks Kion's too young to take the responsibility.

Simba's voice really stinks. Plus, he's so mean! He talks like that right in front of Kions friends! He should pull kion aside as not to hurt anyone's feelings!

I think adult simba being a jerk isn't just a tlk2sp thing. If you remember, he used his best friends as live bait during the battle for pride rock.
