episode 3: bunga the wise
Next episode is "Bunga the Wise" in which "Floodwaters Threaten the Pridelands". I'm unsure of where the roar could come into play, unless the roar can divert water, which I doubt it can. Could see it being a non-roar episode.
So, what condiment goes best with hats? I'm thinking ketchup.

Maybe it's my sleepdrunkeness from a long day of shopping, but I thought this episode was pretty funny. Maybe it's because I expected worse based on a few posts in this thread I read before watching the episode, but I didn't think it was that bad. Was fearing annoyance and cringe from Bunga, didn't really get any. They certainly seem to have gotten better at writing him since RotR. Sure, he had a "fart" but it wasn't really in-your-face or anything, and since honey badgers do have a stink spray, it justifies the occasional use of them.

Comedy was certainly a highlight, and I feel like Kevin Schon was a lot more "Timon" in this episode. His rust from RotR is starting to wear off.

Mufasa showing up again wasn't something I really wanted to see, but oh well. I can live with him showing up a lot I suppose, it's not like I dislike the character.

It's a bit of a shame that this episode seemed weak in the education department. I don't remember learning much about animals other than ostriches don't really bury their heads, and don't remember learning any new Swahili words, though I suppose rain being good for the Pridelands could be another educational takeaway. And to be fair, it is difficult to mix in educational things when trying to weave them into a story.

All in all, this episode was okay. A pretty fun ride with nothing that stuck out to me as horrible and nothing that stuck out to me as great.

Lastly, does anyone know who does the voice of that zebra? He sounds so familiar, but his VA isn't listed on IMDB.
or because he roars with past guard lions he has a more accessible need for his Grandfather because his father is too busy being king and he is just a cub and at this age he is learning and needs help
As KionofTheLionGuard said (and I paraphrase) That is a very good point. While I am not thrilled with Mufasa showing up too much (Especially if he is not voiced by James Earl Jones :x ) The question Kion asked did pertain to the use of his powers, so I don't know who he could have asked and not interrupted the mission he was on.

The Roar was used again, but as with the last time, it was a last resort. I am O.K. with it's use under these circumstance.

I also thought it was interesting to see The same Zebra from Never Judge A Hyena By It's Spots. I had assumed he was a throw away character. It was interesting to see how The Lion Guard operates in a disaster relief capacity and was a very good episode.

Actually all you said (and I paraphrase) was that you did not think that The Roar could divert water. You never made any guarantees, so save you Ketchup and do not eat your hat.

Does anyone else find weird the Kion is taller than Pumbaa? I know that proportions are different in this series, but still? http://i.imgur.com/UrRRxIz.jpg

Anyway, so far the series has been pretty good for a little kids show.

Thought the ep was weak. They can't all be winners like the jasiri ep.

I especially dislike how the lesson was about how 'the quick and easy way isn't always the best way' yet kion saves the day with a quick and easy solution...

I think this episode isn't all that bad. :)

It could simply be me slowly getting used to TLG animation style, but I feel like its gradually improving. I really like how everything looked in the rain, it was beautiful, and the characters' movements appear a bit more natural in this episode then they did in the first one.

I also like how we can see more of the job the guard will be doing. After the storm, they go around and help all the animals get back to their feet, and they even saved a few lives already. Kinda cool.
Bunga still doesn't annoy me all that much - in fact, I still consider him my favorite member of the guard. I personally feel like he has the most characterization of all of them, as annoying as he can be. Sure, he's irresponsible and reckless, rarely giving the second thought, but those traits also make him very brave and ready to risk his life in order to do something. And, well, I still think he is kinda cute.
:superexcited:

As for Mufasa constantly appearing... well, I'm not too happy about it, as I said before, it takes away the gravity of his death in the first movie and his brief appearances when Simba is an adult, which have all kinda hinted his ghost either can't stay for too long/or can't really be seen or heard directly by anyone but Rafiki.
Still, as some fan artists have hinted, and as I personally believe, Kion might have gained some kind of spiritual powers along with his roar, which make the communication possible.
:? Who knows?

And just like in the past episodes, I hate the fact that roar is included everywhere.
It feels like a quick solution, something this episode talks against. And in the past episode, I feel like Kion could have done without it.
Maybe the animators just enjoy animating it, heh.

I just watched the episode, thanks for the link in this thread!
So here is my opinion on this 3rd episode, Bunga the wise:
As usual, I will start with the positive points, the good things first :D
-I loved the variety of animals you see appear on this episode. their designs are unique what gives each and every one of them their own personality/character
-the song was, again, catchy. Gotta love these Lion Guard songs! I love the fact there is a song in every episode! Really love it.
-The animation and the music is epic. The tension they build in using the soundtrack really hits the right point, that Lion King feel gets there in this episode.

the not-so-positive points are:
-Bunga is a lot in the spotlight, I do not really see his addition to the lion guard, I more see him as a burden and do not consider him funny or usefull.
-I miss depth or a moral/educational point in this episode.
-that roar.. it made this episode look rushed. It was like a hand-written story from a 7 year old child got animated. Like an animated fanfic or something.

So, all together, this episode was nice to watch, but not the best.
For me, right now my favorite episode is the "sisi ni sawa" episode so far. After that, the crocodile episode, so this 3rd one gets 3rd place for me.
I actually hope the next episode will be better than this.
Lastly, does anyone know who does the voice of that zebra? He sounds so familiar, but his VA isn't listed on IMDB.
You know what? After racking my brain for over a week, I finally remembered where I had heard the voice before: the MLP episode "Suited for Success". So for anyone interested, the VA for the recurring zebra is Trevor Devall.
