New Animation vs Old Animation
They could have done it hand drawn on many programs there for not using up paper (so that is invalid) and it still would have been 2D traditional hand drawn animation. CGI is cheaper and quicker and quiet frankly more lazy as you put in a few commands and the pc animates for you basically.

I have a huge passion for 2D animation and wanted to do animating but theres nothing where I live that do the hand drawn animation anymore as its all the new CGI.
Basically the old way of animating is dying down and is basically lost. People can't be stuffed animating for 4 years as they want it done here and now.
I pretty much agree with all of this, really.

TLG looks promising overall, but I'm only comparing it to other shows using the same technique. Animation is currently going down a 'one step forward, two steps back' kinda route. One step forward for using computer technology, which makes it easier to draw. Two steps back since people are taking the very easy route and sacrificing quality for time. If a company really, really wanted to, they could produce something that looks a lot like the original film - But it simply isn't worth their time to do that.

I'm certain it will eventually get better, though.

Image is an Epic Mickey concept art. We could have had this in EM3. I still want it.

It also makes me wonder what happen to the Disney artist who have done hand Draw animation on Paper history wise, have they adapted to the new technology or have they layed off those famous artist or the new, I think they put out the old and brought in the new artist considering its not the same people who did the Original films, it kinda makes me sad  because what if those Old Disney artist didn't want to leave and had to find a difference jobs for there hand drawn talent, IDK im just estimating and guessing here.

A lot of disney veteran artists were laid off a few years back.

The strange thing that as Walt got older he was slowly phasing out hand drawn animated movies in favor of live action. In the 80's they only made the movies as courtsey and walt disney animation studios almost closed down until the little mermaid came out which was a major success comercially and critically. Then the string of critical and commerical success kept on happening with tlk being disneys biggest animated success until toy story 3 came out.

But their recent successes with tangled, frozen, and big hero 6 have cemented wdas from being closed down.

yeah and Im getting tired of that kind of 3D, literally sick! of it, I really miss the cartoon animation, thank-GOD they did with TLG, im been daydreaming of the possibility of Disney every bringing back the old ways of movie making, :happythoughts: oh how I wish someday oh how I want to believe someday they will, if Disney fans start complaining about it somehow. But just wishful thinking for now

^ Alas I don't think they will :(. But I hope they may do more with this type of animation.

I hope they one day do a feature length movie in the style of their paperman short, which was great at replicating the hand drawn look in 3D.

I was relieved when I saw the clip, I feared it would be animated like dora the explorer, since the target group was little toddlers. The animation, depth and music blended well and I must say, it is not like the Original movies, but I absolutely think they did a great job, with todays techniques and available talent.
