True Simba was raised by Timon and Pumbaa, but they relied on him (a lion) for protection.

You are absolutely right, if Simba would actually look at the requirements for The Lion Guard he would see that Kion's diverse team is a perfect example of what The Lion Guard is supposed to be. However Simba is thinking in the worst case scenario, The Lion Guard is in a situation where their only option is to fight their way out. Simba who is used to having a Pride of lionesses to watch his back, is arrogantly assuming that any other animal (apparently including the hippo) would not be strong enough to hold their own in that kind of situation. If Kion's teammates are not strong enough to hold their own in a battle, then Kion's life is in even more danger than it otherwise would be in that situation. Simba isn't being jerk, but he does come off as being an elitist.

it does seem out of character for Simba to be this rude.....his attitude in SP made sense - being traumatized by Scar's actions, of course he'd react to Kovu the way he did. but i'm just not seein much reason for him to react so negatively to Kion's lion guard? i agree that it probably comes from a place of highly valuing Mufasa's laws and traditions, and wanting to uphold them in his honor. still would expect Simba to handle the situation better, especially considering his relationship w/ Timon and Pumbaa. yeah, they didn't protect him exactly, but they should provide a good example of how important it is to value the strengths & abilities of animals that aren't lions.

Simba does appreciate the skill of other animals,his Majordomo is a hornbill. He just seems to think that no other animals skills are useful in a combat situation. He must not have seen Rafiki do his martial arts.
