Don't think I'll be getting Diamond Edition unless I really love the cover art or if there's another extra scene or something else the Special Edition from 2003 or 2004 doesn't have. Now that was an epic release.

Yus, I've heard about this; they are already selling Beauty and the Beast D.E where I'm at. As thus a Disney classics collector, I'll hopefully be buying both. ^.^

Hey, can The Lion King Laserdisc be played in a DVD player? Or is the disc too much a different size or something else making it impossible?

well, if I'm correct, I guess they are going to release this movie in Blue-ray (which mean that you need a Blue-Ray Player, or a PS3) and it can came with a DVD version and no forgetting the Digital copy that it might come, but I guess is mostly like that they just release the Blue-Ray version which I think it wouldn't be able to be played on a ordinary DVD player

Thanks but that didn't actually answer my question. I asked if the already released Laserdisc can be played in a DVD player?

I highly doubt it. Laserdiscs were gigantic. No way they'd fit in a standard DVD player.

Ok. Thanks for the answer. I never even heard of laserdiscs before yesterday. I always thought video technology jumped from VHS to DVD. o.O

...I really don't understand why didn't they have the same extra material on the DVD as they did on the laserdisc release. Especially the Alternate Ending - those are freakin' starndard [censored] on a movie's DVD release's bonus material discs! And they did have deleted scenes, why not include the alternate ending there??!! Well, I'm happy someone uploaded it to YouTube...

My guess is that they wanted the Lasedrisc version to become a collector's item of sorts (which it arguable has), hence leaving some of the bonus content only on the laser disc version. Also when a new version of a film comes out in a new format, the bonus material is usually exclusive to that format.
This goes down a whole other complicated route, involving licensing and legal issues but it's more or less why you won't see content from the laserdisc version on another format (besides the youtube rips etc).

The same can be said about the Blu Ray release of the Diamond Edition, odds are it will have bonus content (such as the rumoured 3D version of the film perhaps), which will not be aceesible on any other format, even in the future Sony will still essentialy "own" that piece of content.

It seems that we are at a point where we can see that the various factions that own TLK copyrights are going to stretch the bonus content out through the various forms of the film and thus exploit us fans to amass as much money as humanly possible from this film. I, for one, who doesn't have the laserdisc version will be in need of the bluray copy if it ever does get released, however, this is probably only the continuation of a long path of corperate exploitation.

I am getting my paws on this when it comes out,for sure. There is no way I'm letting this opportunity slide away. It's gonna be so awesome, especially since it'll be on Blu-Ray if I reckoned right.
