Simba is more than the complete package of a hero.
. A dark past? check.
. Wisdom and strength? Spot on.
. Kindness and courage? The definition of these words.
. Character of high stature? He's a king man. A KING!
. Awesome hair? Best ever.
And we actually see him develop into a better character in the Lion King 1 and 1.5. Meanwhile, in Simba's Pride, we see him develop into a better king. I would say that Simba is some of Disney's best work character wise.
Is this in fact a characterization of how you feel about Simba or a shift in alliances? Long have I known you to be a steadfast Simba fan, but before you have alligned yourself with my view of Kovu's inner power. Is this your true feelings revealing themselves? or perhaps I have lost my touch.... This is not intended to offend you or anyone else, merely a question of personal interest concerning prior corespondance....

TPAM, I agree with you that Kovu is a better hero than Simba. Not by much, but just enough to pull him ahead. This doesn't however change the fact that I am intrigued and obsessed with Simba. My true feelings about Simba are revealed in my previous post, but when compared to Kovu:
. Dark past? Not quite as dark as Kovu's past.
. Wisdom and Strength? Both have obvious strength, but Kovu has more wisdom due to past experiences.
. Kindness and Courage? I would say that they both are about even in these fields.
. Characters of high stature? Simba may be a king, but Kovu went from nothing more than an outsider to a prince.
. Awesome hair? Simba has the original awesome hair. But Kovu has a mix of Simba's flowing mane, and Scar's color. Good combination.

While this proves Kovu to be an exquisite hero, that will not convince me to change my opinions. I respect your favorite, and you respect mine.

That's a pretty interesting point of view, but I have to disagree on some of them.
-I don't think that you can actually compare Simba's and Kovu's past, they were too different to be compared as to who's was harder. Kovu spent his life being trained to take over the PrideLands, and he was with his pride, while Simba was convinced to be the one who killed his own father and got away from his pride, living his life as a rogue. Everything was taken away from him. On the other hand,we don't know all that much about how Kovu was exactly growing up,but since he's not really scarred or anything,I doubt it could have been tragic to that extent as some people think it was.

-Simba is stronger, you can't compare him to Kovu. Why else would Kovu had been planning an ambush attack instead of a straight up fight. As for wisdom,Kovu isn't as wise as you make him out to be,in my opinion. He doesn't have the life experience that Simba has. He spent his whole life in training, while Simba has been in so many different situations that have taught him a lot about life. A fair example of that is when Kovu is more willing to run away with Kiara rather than help the two prides to get along.
-Kovu might be prince, but who made him prince. ;)

-Yeah,as for manes,it's all up to personal preference. I think Mufasa had the most awesome mane

You cannot properly compare any two characters, I tried to the best of my abilities. The reason I say Kovu has a darker past than Simba is because Scar only tried to kill Simba's physical being. Zira tried to destroy Kovu's mental being through manipulation and deceit. We know enough of Kovu's past. He was born in grief and raised in hate, though neither of them were his burdens to bare. Yet he was forced to bare them nonetheless.

While Simba was living the prime of his life in the lap of luxury with Timon and Pumba, Kovu spent every moment of every day training for a destiny that was not to be. They are both obviously strong, and while it can be argued either way, it seems likely that Kovu would be stronger. I see where you're comin' from on the wisdom aspect. And he's more interested in running away because it's easier to run. Simba does the same thing for years and years of his life.

While Simba made him a prince, Kovu was not truly destined for anything more than an outsider. Simba was born into royalty, and so it is a bit more impressive for Kovu's stature.

I agree, Mufasa's mane is awesome. But I prefer Simba's. It's flowing, red, and perfect.

Åžcar didn't only try to kill Simba's physical being, he convinced him into believing that he was the one responsible for his father's death. I don't have to explain just how hard it is to feel like that,he thought he killed the one lion that meant the most to him. His psychical nature was devastated, he didn't even have the will to go on. If Timon and Pumbaa hadn't found him, he could have even ended updead. While Kovu, was with his pride all the time,he was living a life with the ones he knew since he was born. Yes,Zira trained him to do what was in her best interest. But at the same time,I don't think he lived a life full of hate and misery, after all,how else could he have developed feelings like the ones he did for Kiara.

I deeply doubt that Kovu could even compare to Simba strength-wise. For instance, when Zira ambushed Simba while he was on a walk with Kovu,we see Simba fight off several lionesses, while Kovu gets taken out by a mere kick from Vitani. I don't think that can be dissuaded.

Kovu was actually destined to be king, according to Zira, but that's another topic. I agree that Kovu's transition from the 'bad' side to the 'good' one is very impressive, but the ways on which it can be compared to Simba's past are not quite comparable. They have too much of a different story. Kovu was saved by love, and so was Simba, but Simba also had to 'take his place in the circle of life' which had more of an impact on me.

Don't get me wrong,I think Kovu is awesome, but I just like Simba more,as I think that his being transcends a much better message to what life is about.

I agree with you on the subject of liking Simba more. That's kinda why my name is Simba66. I love Simba that much. Everything about him appeals to me, and I can defend him til the end. However, I think that Kovu is ever so slightly a better hero than Simba. I can't really explain why I think this. I just do. No matter how great a hero is though, he'll never be good enough to top my favorite character of all time: Simba.

You see, this is why I say what I say, there is no one around that argues for Kovu like you guys argue for Simba. If I didn't support him no one would. Simba is the primo hero of the story, but nothing can compare with the dark and mysterious past that Kovu has had. Simba is strong, but Kovu's figure has been trained through his entire life for one thing: KILL SIMBA.... He ultimately doesn't do this due to his rapid accumulation of wisdom, but he still has great physic and mental power....
