I don't believe that the book's illustrator(s) meant to give Kopa a distinct design, I think they wanted him to look just like cub Simba, but with a tuft of brown fur on his head.

Yyep. I believe if they really meant him to look different from cub Simba, they would've made some remarkable and easily noticable difference--other than just the hair tuft because that even Simba would've had soon, as in it was just a sign that Kopa was a bit older than cub Simba in the film.

That trailer is part of the film universe wherein no one official ever said it was Kopa. Instead they said it was Fluffy with no gender--and then the makers of the sequel film showed us they had now finally given Fluffy an identity: Kiara. Simple as that. It's not rocket science.

Then you will remain confused and finding nonsense, as long as you don't dare to step into the world of facts from your blissful world of fantasy. It's not really bad out here, you know--because Kopa is out here too--he's here for fanfiction the same as out there in your world. The only difference is that here everything makes sense.

I support him as canon, simply because he makes sense if you put him IN the film, makes sense if he hadn't been born.
