Yeah it could be a female. And it could be a male. I beleive "Fluffy" is most likely a male.
I believe they didn't even bother to think of the gender because a sequel was not on their minds and the current story was to end with the cub being held up with no further events and no lines for any characters. As in, there was absolutely no reason or need to decide the gender.

I suppose. But that was probably why they created Kopa. After they realized how popular the movie was, they created Kopa.

Perhaps. But if the popularity was the reason, why did they release those books only in USA? It would seem unfair to the 99% of the fandom who might never know him.

But they couldn't expect everyone to have an internet access, or even a computer, much less to know how to use them. Especially as internet was only starting to gain interest and worldwide popularity in home use, during the '90's. o.O

Like, I for one have been an active user of internet since 1998 and I first heard of Kopa in 2009 or 2010! As it has already been said, only the most addicted and hard-core TLK fans would know about Kopa because they want to have and see every single spinn-off ever produced. Leading me to believe the film's popularity may not have been the reason as they left him so obscure. But of course, I don't know why they decided to approve him. Maybe it was the popularity after all.

It most likely was. I was joking with the internet thing. I only heard about Kopa about a year ago. And when I first heard of him I thought he was fanon. I looked into it and figured out he was canon.

Just official, not canon.

What do you think is the reason for that they didn't release those books anywhere outside USA? There's got to be a reason. o.O

Maybe the books simply weren't selling well enough to be translated and sold in other countries? Seems like a fairly decent reason to me, since I get the impression that they've been pretty obscure even for American fans. (I'm pretty sure that I really would've loved them as a kid if there had ever been a Swedish version, haha.) And I think that if the books had been really popular and widespread, it would almost have been required for the filmmakers to explain in the film why Simba only had a daughter in the sequel. Or perhaps Kopa even then would have been SP's main character. We shall never know :dramaqueen: :P

Personally I always thought it was because they were struggling to turn a profit in the USA, much less in the UK and simply decided that it was not good business, I also think that is the reason for the books rarity too I mean they are quite the collectors piece now.
