Hmm, I've read the book again and collected some info about him:
- He loved both of his sons
- He spent a lot of time teaching Mufasa how to be King
- He had a long black mane an bright green eyes according to the writer
- He didn't get along with Taka, but still loved him, as he nuzzled him after the buffalo attack. [Mufasa: "He and my father don't get along. Taka doesn't like me much either."]
- The artist made him look like Mufasa, but with darker colours.
Ahadi's lines:
[To the hyenas] "You have eaten already."
[to Shenzi] "Silence, Shenzi! You were going to kill for sport. That is not permitted in the Pride Lands. Now go!"
[to Rafiki, after he told Ahadi he was searching for knowledge] "You might profit from such an exciting quest."
[To Rafiki] "I would like to speak to you about our troubles. Perhaps your knowledge might be of some help."
[To Zuzu, Zazu's mother] "Asante sana. Thank you Zuzu. I'll deal with the hyenas-- [interrupted] right now."
[To Taka, after he mentioned about the promise he had given to him and Mufasa] "Yes I did, but I'm afraid it will have to wait."
[To Taka, after he says that he always has more important things to do than take him somewhere] "That's not true. Besides, being the Lion King carries great responsibilities. Your brother seems to understand these things."
[To the animals, after starting an uproar] "Enough! I'll do what I can about the hyenas. But I have no control over the weather. I cannot make it rain. Uru is searching for a new source of water and food for us. We must wait patiently until she returns."
[To Taka] "Please try to understand."
[To the buffaloes] "How dare you attack my sons!"
[To the buffaloes, about Taka's wounds] "You'd better hope it's not serious."
[To Rafiki, talking about Taka's wounds] "Then let's take him home."
[To Taka, about his scar] "It will serve as a reminder of how reckless you were. Why did you make Boma angry?"
[To Taka, after he said he wanted to get revenge] "Instead of hurting us, you nearly got yourself killed. You must rid of yourself the anger that rules you, my son. Perhaps the wound you received will serve as a reminder of this."
[To Mufasa, Rafiki and Zuzu] "In spite of Taka's attack, Boma and his herd have promised to let the other animals share the water. That will ease the crisis. Tomorrow, I'll deal with the hyenas. If only I could learn of such problems before they grew into crises!"
[To Rafiki, after he suggested the King to get a majordomo] "A good idea, but who?"
[To Zuzu, after Rafiki suggested her] "So be it! From this day forward, you and your family shall be stewards to the Kings of the Pride Lands."
[To Rafiki] "And you, wise Rafiki, shall be my teacher.
[To Rafiki, after he said he can't stay] "Rafiki, I want to make the Pride Lands a place where all animals can thrive. This will be possible if we cooperate. Will you help us achieve that goal?"
[To Rafiki, after he agreed he'll stay] "So be it! I can feel it, this will be the beginning of a great era for all of us under the stars."
Overall he seems like a pretty good ruler and fatherly figure; I don't see why people make him give Taka his scar.. but then again, it's semi-canon. Not really official.
