Nah, I find her kind of useless in the movie TBH 
Just the main character's love interest, Simba would have come back without Nala, and in SP she didn't really do anything.. The directors must have been like ''The main character needs a love interest since all of them have love interests in other Disney movies'', and they created Nala. x( I love her design though.
And I never found her a better parent than Simba.. Like I said, she doesn't really do anything.
