I think the creators of Zira´s character could have given her a bit more depth. She now is just an insane old lioness, and I think it´s really sad to make kids believe that the world is filled with ’all good’ and ’all evil’ personalities.

Well, her design seems to be strongly based on Scars, she even has his goatee and head shape. She also has big eyes with small pupils (but that's a plain villain habit)
But she sure is unique, she's the only lioness with a strip from her forehead to her shoulders, and a little hole in her ear.

Zira is almost as cool and evil as Scar. She's definitely second best.
