There's one thing that's been bugging me the last day or so. When Simba arrives back in the Pridelands to overthrow Scar, Sarabi (the Queen) is obviously still alive. But once Simba defeats Scar, he and Nala take the throne. So... is it just tough luck for Sarabi? Game over? You're out? No soup for you? Just because Mufasa's gone, she loses her position? or did Simba and Nala wait until her death to take the throne, and I'm missing that?

I think that she probably let her son have the position as ruling monarch. And if something happened to both Simba and Nala then she would still be there to fill in for royalty.

But yeah, I think Sarabi's been queen long enough so she wouldn't mind giving up her position. ^^ And anyway, it's not like she's been completely demoted. Being the king's mother she does hold a position higher than most lionesses of the pride. Besides, she probably wouldn't be able to rule the Pridelands as well as she once was capable of, given how old she is at the end of TLK. And finally as Dutch stated, this is what always happens in a monarchy.

No, Princess means she is daughter of current royalty, not mother. Unless I'm mistaken

well, she wasn't exactly queen when Simba took over. she got demoted when Scar took over. because Sarabi isn't blood royalty and only royalty by marriage, if there's someone of royal blood to take the throne she has to step down. if Scar hadn't been alive, then Sarabi would've kept her throne. and if Simba hadn't been exhiled, she likely would've ruled as queen until he was old enough to do so himself.

and no, Snow, princess means daughter of a queen or another princess not the daughter of current royalty now Sarabi might hold the title of dutchess? I'm not quite sure how all that works.
