Simba`s Talk With Kiara

Simba`s Talk With Kiara

Postby PrincessKiara » April 5th, 2010, 12:38 am

What do you think of Simbas "talk" with Kiara after she went to the Outlands as a cub?
This scene is a "history repeats itself" thing: Kiara went to the Outlands, Simba to the Elephant Graveyard..

Anyway, do you think Simba should have been stricter with Kiara? He didn’t seem very angry to me. When Cub Simba went to the Elephant Graveyard, poor Mufasa was extremly upset, and very angry.. It seems odd to me that Simba doesn’t react in the same way with Kiara, especially because he is so overprotective. Or maybe the animators didn’t want to make this scene too much like Mufasas talk with Simba?

And it didn’t seem like Nala was going to scold Kiara or anything either.. I get the impression that Simba is doing a lot of the parenting.. Things involving safety, rules and breaking of these.

What do you think?

Yeah, I noticed the two scenes were similar too. But then again, nearly everything from the second movie has an equivalent in the first movie. I guess Simba didn't want to scare Kiara the same way Mufasa and terrified him when he was a cub. Maybe he wanted to try a different approach to teaching his daughter some discipline. :P Simba never was one to use fear to intimidate Kiara into doing the right thing, so maybe that's why she grew up so spoiled and independent lol.
You're right about Simba doing most of the parenting. It seems like Nala wants to give Kiara some space to grow up on her own, whereas Simba keeps a close watch and Kiara and teaches her the lessons she should know since he is so afraid of her making mistakes.
Both "talks" were effective regardless of how severe they were, since both cubby Simba and Kiara never made the same mistake again. ^^ I suppose it's just two different parenting styles Disney's trying to show us lol.

Yeah, I thought it was weird. Considering how ridiculously overprotective he is, I would've thought he would have given her a lot of trouble about it instead of basically letting her shake it off. Also, Nala and him had kind of a weird interaction before they parted, when Simba cleared his throat and Nala smiled at him and left. I don't really get that, why was Nala so cheery? Because Simba was going to scold Kiara? I thought that was odd.

lol that’s true. Cub Simba nearly started to cry when Mufasa talked to him.. I think Mufasa was fair, though. I actually think Simba should have acted sterner with Kiara that day. It was a very serious situation.. To me, it seems like Kiara understood that Simba was mad at her, and regretted what she had done. She definatly seemed sorry for breaking the rules (or being caught, lol) but it passed over in indifference extremly quickly.. She was also being disrespectful when Simba was talking about the Circle of Life, which really bugged me.
And yes, Nala definatly seems quite laid-back when it comes to parenting Kiara.. She seems to have a lot of faith and confidence in her daughter, she keeps saying "she’ll be fine." ;)

Yeah, she didn't even seem to understand the gravity of what she'd done, evidenced by her "oops you caught me!" grin at first when he sits her down.

Yes, I agree.

I understand why you thought that was weird. But when Simba clears his throat, Nala understands that he’s going to scold Kiara. This reminds her of the time she and Simba were cubs, and Mufasa sent her and Zazu away before scolding Simba.. So when Nala sees Simba staying behind and he clears his throat, motioning for her to go home, Nala thinks "aha, it’s time for the Talk." :understanding: <-- this smiley is from that scene.

Very true. She tries to act cute and innocent, probably hoping she’d manage to melt Simbas heart, lol. (It’s probably worked for her before.) Then her face falls when she sees Simbas stern gaze and she realizes that she’s actually in real trouble.

I totally agree. I think he is way too protective and almost tries to crush Kiaras spirit.

I agree with everything Amanda said and can't really add much to that, except for the fact that it seems like it's always the father's responsibility to dish out the punishments. :) Both Muffy and Simba caved pretty easily in both cases though and I think Simba was also a little less strict with his talk with Kiara, just because she is his daughter and as stereotypical as it sounds, daddy/daughter relationships work differently than father/son ones do in my opinion. :)
