Scar's Alternative Name

Scar's Alternative Name

Postby Moka » February 6th, 2009, 6:35 pm

Some people call Scar "Taka", which means "garbage" in Swahili. Taka was originally used in TLK 6 New Adventures book: Tale of Two Brothers. It was his cub name, when a water buffalo named Boma charged at him and gave him his scar, he wanted to be called "Scar" from that point on.

Do you like this name, "Taka", or do you think Scar should've been his name for his entire life? Do you think the book ruined his name?

For me, I think its a good name. I like Scar better, its more of a nickname though, its the only character who has an english name. I liked the story of how his name changed. What do you think?

I think they should've come up with a better name than Taka, since you'd have to wonder why his parents would name their son a name that means "garbage", "trash", and "filth". Scar's cool and all, but it is more or less like a nickname. maybe if they went with everyone called him Scar so often that they forgot his real name?

I didn't know that, thanks for the info :)!
I've always known him as Scar, so I don't really like Taka for him, I don't think it fits him.
Although, since English is not my first language, calling the character has never felt like actually saying "scar", you know what I mean? But I guess that if it did, or if they had translated Scar's name in the movie, I wouldn't like it...
Anyway, I like Scar better

I like the name Scar better as well, but I also liked how his name was changed. I think the name Scar is a bit ...different from the other names. Which is why the name Taka is a good explanation for why the name Scar is so different.

i think Taka fits with scar but i have a different theory about how he got his scar.

Ahadi and Mufasa where always closer to each other and so where Uru and Taka.

Ahadi was a wise and noble king, but always had to walk in his fathers footsteps because Mohatu was greater.
he didn't want that to happen to Taka or to Mufasa so he wanted Taka to be abandoned after his first birthday, so he could grow somewhere old and not be a king instead. Uru was not very happy about Ahadi's decision so they had a fight and Taka tried to protect his mom and so got his scar from Ahadi, witch was by accident of course. :kickassnala:

i don't think Ahadi was a bad father. i just think he had a temper and he tried to protect his youngest son for a life of shadow ship, but by trying so hard he had just help Taka in to darkness even more. :sneer:

Taka was so furious at his father that he wanted to be called Scar to remind his father of the horrible thing he had done. :grr: :girlyman:

:D i like this way better than Taka getting hurt by another animal. :macho:

But Scar is fine for his adult form.. as a cub i prefer Taka.

isn't Ed kinda english?? .. don't know many Swhaili people with that name.. :? ..

and it wasn't Boma that gave Taka his Scar it was Boma's friends.. though if you wan't to nitpick they were just following Boma's orders after Taka pissed him off.. ;)

I've always been used to Scar.. but I guess Scar is better than being Boo-boo or Ow-eee or something..

Yeah you're right, the book was unspecific they said "Three large buffaloes burst from the tall yellow grass".

Ed was a perfect name for him  Its better than some long swahili name because that just wouldn't be funny.
