Opinions of TLK1.5

Opinions of TLK1.5

Postby Moka » February 4th, 2009, 8:21 am

Well lets face it, Disney isn't the great sequel/midquel/prequel maker. Especially nowadays... so, lets talk about what we liked and disliked about the midquel.

Personally, I thought TLK1.5 was a pretty good movie. I'm going to list some things I liked and some things I didn't like...

A few things I like...
Timon & Pumbaa make you laugh just like the original. They really recaptured Timon & Pumbaa's humor and I'm glad they could do that.

They brought back most of the original voice actors, most importantly Nathan Lane (Timon) and Ernie Sabella (Pumbaa). The animation was superb, the characters look believably similar to their original selves. Except for cub Simba, who looks different in every scene in every movie. And the hyenas, which they brought back >.< look...not at all like the original three. But OTHER THAN THAT they did a pretty good job.

The jungle. Everything in the "Parenthood" scene and stuff that happened in the jungle was perfect. I love this part of the movie, its my favorite scene. I kinda wish more of the movie was based around adventures and stuff that happened in the jungle, but I guess they were too worried about plot and matching up with The Lion King's story.

Rafiki and Timon. Lol. Great scene where Rafiki is telling Timon to go beyond what he sees.

A few things I dislike...
They did use a tad of computer animation, which is a huge No-No for me. Any movie that was created with hand drawn animation should never have a sequel with computer animation. Believe it or not, however, the original Lion King creators did use computer animation to aid them with the stampede scene, so maybe I'm overreacting. Most of us have seen the introduction to the DVD menu of the 2003 DVD for TLK...its done completely with computer animation and it BLOWS. First of all, the computer animation sucks. I took a class in computer animation and I could do a better job than they did. Seriously. I hate seeing that.

They messed with the story of the original movie. I know midquels are supposed to do this, but they just took it too far. "Quick Uncle Max, burrow a tunnel so the hyenas fall into a 2 foot deep hole when Timon knocks the supports out!" No. Just...No. Lets use our brains and come up with some good, original material. =) They realllly messed with the ending, which for me is a very emotional part of TLK. Now every time I watch the ending I think of how Timon's mom "helped" drive away Scar and the hyenas. Yeah. Or...Scar could bite her head off. Please?

Why a movie based around Timon & Pumbaa? Its "The Lion King", not "The Socially Deranged Meerkat and Smelly Bugivore Warthog King". I'm a big fan of these guys, but they got their own TV show...they don't need a movie too. I wanted to know more about Simba as a cub, maybe the adventures he was in that we'll never know about or the dangers he put himself in along with Nala.

Pumbaa's non-existent story. So they made a new movie based around these two, and then they don't even tell us half of the story. Where did Pumbaa come from? Is it just not important? If so...why make a movie about it?

--

Even though that was a long post I'm bound to forget something. Let discuss this, what did you like/dislike about it?

Dude, almost the entire movie (tlk3) was CGI, I didn't like that they did CGI for the CYFTLT scene thingy in TLK3... It made Simba look WAY fat, and Nala, she didn't look like Nala to me. And the fact that nothing matched up right, the times were wrong. and all that... it was dumb, like How did Timon & Pumbaa get from the Gorge right before Simba, and then claim it as theirs? If Rafiki and Timon had met before (the scene were Rafiki told Timon to "look beyond what you see," then why didn't Timon recognize him when Timon, Pumbaa, and Nala were talking and he dropped in? How did the 3 hyenas get injured when they fell like 2 feet? There are soo many flaws in this movie, I don't think it deserves to have the title of "The Lion King 3" it deserves to be called, "The worst lion-based movie in the history of the universe" or as Moka said "The Socially Deranged Meerkat and Smelly Insectivore Warthog King" ... I obviously hated this movie, and therefore, will dog the crap out of it, in any way I can. I should probably just dog the entire series since it has so many flaws anyways...

I personally didn't notice a difference in the animation. sorry guys, I just don't see were it looks different than the classics. sure a few things don't look right in a scene or two, but there were things like that in the original too. they did for the most part use the same colors and same way of drawing them, unlike TLK2. it was something different to show Timon's story, even if they already told us where he and Pumbaa came from and how they met in the Timon & Pumbaa show and the show and movie don't add up.

most of what I hate is that it messes with my favorite moments in the original TLK. the only changed things I like are everything that happens in the jungle aside from their finding it, especially the CYFTLT scene because I'm not into romance. I also think it was stupid with the meerkats digging tunnels. they're on Pride Rock. for goodness sake's it's solid rock! how could they dig tunnels into solid rock?!

I liked this movie. I laughed a lot while watching it. But let's analyze it more closely :confident:

Over all, I enjoyed the animation. I don't care if they used computer animation, the point is that the drawings looked good, and especially the part that I care the most about: the colors. They respected them and everything looked pretty :) Of course the characters don't look the same as in the first one, but you've gotta admit they did a good job.
I liked discovering Timon's past, but as Moka said, I wouldn't have minded knowing Pumbaa's too. And though I liked some of the intromissions of the pair, like the one in "I just can't wait to be king", I agree with Moka: they ruined some of the best moments in the original movie. The animals are kneeling for their future king, thus following the cycle of life... thanks, Pumbaa!
And what I disliked... no, what I hated the most: why did Simba have to refer to Timon as his father, no matter how informal it was? :ehh2:

I didn't know most of it was CGI, I couldn't tell the difference =P It looks similar so its not a big deal for me, either. Yeah they got some stuff wrong but overall it was okay, I think.
I should probably just dog the entire series since it has so many flaws anyways...
The original didn't have flaws! It was just the sequels that messed up a little bit. Especially the parts you mentioned like why Timon didn't recognize Rafiki LOL I didn't even notice that!

When I generalized about the jungle, I meant to say all parts where Simba was a cub/teen lion were good, and everything after that was bad. I forgot about the CYFTLT scene, they should NOT have messed with that, I agree.

And yeah, Schindler I dunno why Simba would refer to Timon as a father...more like an uncle...a really crazy uncle.

Yeah, point taken. They really didn't try to match up the Sequels to the original, did they? retarded Disney and their hunger for money.

Haha I hadn't realized that either. Either Disney messed up, or Timon just has very bad memory.

And I wouldn't care if Simba had referred to Timon as his uncle, cousin, brother, mother... okay, maybe not mother... but why as his father? I just think Mufasa lost some respect there :ehh2:

yeah, I hated it when he referred to him as Pop. not only did it mess with Simba's underlying longing for his real father and believing it was his fault Mufasa died, as an adult he always referred to him as Timon so it doesn't match up.

There were a lot of things wrong with that movie. For one thing, it was too funny. They even made jokes out of the most serious parts, like the stampede or the end when Simba roars. It kind of felt like an insult. :x

Very true, Amanda. They just seemed to mess with the original too much. This movie just seems to prove that Disney can't make an emotional movie anymore :P
