Symbolism of Love Will Find A Way

Symbolism of Love Will Find A Way

Postby PrincessKiara » December 9th, 2012, 9:24 pm

I just wanted to post/mention some things I have noticed about the song/animation in Love Will Find A Way. Some of this I`m sure everyone else has spotted too, but other things might be new?

Here it is:

At the beginning of the song, Kiara looks up at the sky and notices the stars (images in the stars, not sure what to call them exactly) that she and Kovu were gazing at earlier.
She looks at them while singing the title of the song, which I think is meant to symbolize her and Kovu falling in love, (looking back on their excperiences together) and that together they`ll find a way for their love to thrive.

Also when Kiara is searching for Kovu, she stops for a moment to watch two butterflies fluttering above her. The same two butterflies appear at the end of the song. Kovu notices them, and chases them, laughing, and Kiara follows.
When Kiara is a cub, there are two occasions where she`s seen chasing a butterfly: First time, in the opening scene at Pride Rock, when Simba gives his lecture about safety. Kiara gets distracted by the butterfly and chases it. In the following scene, she chases the butterfly along the savannah.

This may be a long shot, but in my mind there is some hidden symbolism in the single butterfly from Kiaras cubhood and the couple of butterflies appearing during LWFAW.
As a cub, Kiara appears to be lonely (she`s never seen playing with any other cubs besides Kovu) and chasing the lone butterfly provides her with entertainment. As a young adult, Kiara falls in love with Kovu, and the two butterflies appearing in the song might represent that Kiara has now found her other half, the piece of her that was missing. The butterfly (and Kiara) have now found their mates, and feel complete and happy.

-------------

Kiara: "I am not just a princess, you know! That is only half of who I am!"
Pumbaa: "Who is the other half?"

(In the Norwegian version, Kiara says "That is only half of me!" to which Pumbaa inquires: "Where is the other half?")

At this point in the movie, Kiara hasn`t even met Kovu yet. I think this line refers to how Kiara is frustrated at how Timon and Pumbaa can`t seem to look beyond her title to see the person behind it.

However, it may also be foreshadowing to Kiara and Kovu meeting and falling in love, as Kovu is Kiaras "other half."

When Kiara is searching for Kovu after he has been exiled, she looks at her reflection in the water on two occasions. Half of her reflection is actually missing. I think this is a symbol of how Kiaras "other half" is gone, namely Kovu.

In the Danish version of Love Wil Find A Way, Kovu says:
"Living without you is living a half life."

When Kiara is finally reunited with her beloved Kovu, the lions look at their reflections in the water as they sit together by a pool. Kovu notices how their reflections have become merged:
"Hey, look. We are one."

Kiara and Kovu belong together, neither can be/feel whole without the other.

Am I totally overthinking this or just stating the obvious? lol What do you think?

First, those images made up of stars are called constellations. Second, I've never noticed the symbolism concerning the butterflies. I'm sure it was intentional. There's a lot of symbolism you may not noticed the first time while watching Simba's Pride. One of this is the little blue bird during "We are One" sequence. We see the little bird trying to fly on its own, but is stopped from its mother, which Kiara can relate with her situation. Then, at the end, the little bird appears again, and flies freely into the sunset with Kiara giving it sympathy knowing she won't get the same since her duties are to be future queen.

Here, you are stating the obvious. I've known for a long time that Kovu is Kiara's other half as do many die-hard LK fans. Another take on Kiara and Kovu's reflection is that both halves of their faces represent their respective prides: the Pride Landers and the Outsiders, and when they are connected, they are one. Also, one could hearken back to the first movie since the merged prides are one with the "Circle of Life" since everything is in "delicate balance" because Simba, as the king, has "respected all the creatures".

The only thing that ''Love will find a way'' symbolises, is false hope. Only in Disney movies would love ''find'' a way, but not in real life.
