Deleted Lines from the Script

Deleted Lines from the Script

Postby DGFone » July 19th, 2012, 5:15 am

This is a video that Noah made that shows the voice actors reciting some of their lines. Specifically, mostly lines that were left out of the final version of Simba's Pride:

I have to say, I was very disappointing to find out about Mufasa's lines. They are amazing, and I always say that Simba's Pride should have been about Simba living up to Mufasa's expectations rather than Kiara and Kovu falling in love. So for James Earl Jones to actually get recorded saying "You have let your family break apart, and in doing so, you've broken the circle of life"... I feel like they broke the movie by leaving that out.

I knew about James Earl Jones's line before, but I didn't listen close enough at Matthew Broderick's lines. The Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella looks like an ad lib.

And from what I've heard, Mufasa's line in that video was to be directed at Kiara, which motivates her and Kovu to go back, and reunite the prides. But, it's just a rumor I heard.

Really? That's very interesting! I didn't know that. Thanks, TheLionPrince! Because if that is the case, it makes the story of Simba's Pride, well, I think even better. It makes Kiara less of a perfect Disney Princess, and her actions are making things worse, meaning that she too has to learn the meaning of "circle of life" the hard way. You can't just go off and do your own thing, like Kiara and Kovu wanted to do, ignoring what their families though of their activities.

Yeah, I would've like Kiara getting bagged on supernaturally--Especially if the other option for the line was yet again how wrong Simba was being!

Even though TLK 2 is my favorite movie and will always be, I do understand that it could have been so much better if elements like this lines would've been included. They are amazing!!!! >:[

Most of those lines wouldn't have added a thing. The Rafiki line even seemed out of place in my opinion.

However, the Mufasa line could have been powerful, especially if it was directed at Kiara. The main thing that bugs me about SP is how Kiara never once has to answer for her reckless behavior. Even her lapses in judgement (like accepting Kovu even at the point when he fully intends to kill Simba) turn out for the better. It would have added a lot to the story to balance that out a bit, so it's disappointing to know that Mufasa's line was recorded and then not used in the final version.
Come death. Come suffering. I will not live in fear. In this fleeting life where time escapes us, the path of least resistance is a slow quiet death. I'd rather burn out than fade away.

I can't believe that I forgot about these lines. My guess is they were cut due to changes in the story of perhaps time constraints. I agree that the biggest loss was Mufasa's line.

I've seen that documentary, but for some reason, I never really noticed those lines. Mufasa's line being directed at Kiara really does make sense in light of this part of the plot summary that accompanied various pieces of SP merchandise (from lionking.org's SP page:
Following her heart, Kiara runs away from Pride Rock to join Kovu in the wild, hoping to find a place far away where they can be together. At night Kiara is visited by the spirit of Mufasa, who reminds Kiara of her obligation to her pride and her role in the circle of life.
Judging by this snippet as well as James Earl Jones' line, it looks like Kiara getting a stern talking-to from the spirit of Mufasa was going to be a plot element at one point (and whoever was writing the plot synopsis for the merchandise never got the memo that it was discarded).

As for Nuka fighting with Simba, I think that was just part of the ambush scene that got shortened -- in the final movie, Nuka lunges at Simba, but then he just freezes and Simba swats him out of the way before he can do anything else.
