The ending of Simba's Pride

The ending of Simba's Pride

Postby DLFix » September 11th, 2011, 9:59 pm

What do you think of the ending of SP?

I watched it yesterday, and realized that everytime I see this movie, I get really pissed off in the end. You know, it's when Mufasa says to Simba "Well done, my son. We are one." And I go all like hey! it wasn't exactly Simba alone who stopped the war. He just said it to Kiara in the beginning of the movie, but at the same time, he tells her not to be around the Outlanders, because they are not "one of us". Sort of double morale, don't you think. And then, in the final battle scene, Kiara has to explain to him that there's no difference between Pridelanders and Outlanders. They're all the same, and once even belonged in the same pride.

So I don't like what the makers of this movie did with Simba as a character. In TLK, he was this charming lion who got traumatized because of his father's death and therefor had to run away from his past. You could sympathize with him. But in SP, he's just this black & white, judgmental lion. That kind Simba you got to know in TLK is gone, and it's pretty sad.

So, what are YOUR opinions about the ending?

I see your point here, but I have always thought that Mufasa was telling him 'well done' because he finally understands that everyone's the same. Just my opinion.

For me, the real ending of Simba's Pride is Mufasa's message. Because for me, Simba's Pride is not about Kiara and Kovu fixing the rift between the prides, but Simba finally becoming the King that he always wanted to be, as Mufasa wanted, and knowing that Mufasa is there right next to him.

It's a perpetual ending in my opinion. They generally agreed upon becoming "one" and set forth a new beginning in Mufasa's satisfaction with the new 're-union', like it always has in the first movie.

Think about it. When Mufasa's death was shown and Scar's guilt filled into Simba, Mufasa once told Simba that "...we are all connected in the great Circle of Life", in which he is implying that Simba has to take his past and live forth another past (a little confusing, but it's well thought).

I wish I had the intelligence of posting a well-detailed of what I'm trying to conclude for my opinion here, but's it's really late here and unfortunately, I don't have the intelligence of concluding my opinion.
What do you think of the ending of SP?
Not quite as moving as the ending in the first movie, but when Simba's eyes are open as he reminded of "We are One", he really develops as a character as he finally releases his prejudice. The scene following that is expectional, and just as Gerada mentioned, Mufasa really thinks Simba understands, "...we are all connected in the great Circle of Life." Also, it was Simba's decision to accept the Outsiders, not Kiara nor Kovu, into his pride because he was the King; he could have chosen not to, but he did.

Excuse me for the long paragraph below:

May I recommend you watch the "Proud of Simba's Pride" documentary so you know why the makers made Simba the way he is in the second movie, and get it a lot of thought. Darrell Rooney stated "The seeds of the first movie are in the second movie." What seeds? As you mentioned Simba's traumata, it was a seed planted into Simba's life because of his father's untimely death, and it's being planted into the second movie as Simba is willingly not to trust no one outside of his pride AKA Zira and the Outsiders who allied themselves with Scar knowing his daughter, Kiara, is just as innocent and naive as Simba was when he was a cub as mentioned by Nala, and with Zira around, she can attempt to make her life just as horrible as Simba's life so that's why Simba is so overprotective, and judgmental. On top of that, Simba never had any training to be king, and when he rules by his heart seen at the end of the movie, he shows he can a good king.

I alwase say it but, this movie was made for money  it was a straight to video. The story of course could have had more work. Although to be honest wear things shine the most is at the very end when everything seems to be... wrapped up for lack of a better term :P , with Mufasas message and when all four of them roar on pride rock. And of course without the second film we could not have had this 8-)

I have actually seen that documentary, just after I watched the actual movie a couple of days ago, so I DO understand what they makers were thinking while writing this script. But I still don't think they pulled it through that good. It's an interesting storyline, and if written in a different way, I could have sympathized with Simba more than I do now. Instead, I sympathize more with Zira and the other Outlanders in this film, because their reasons of what they do and why is described and shown up in a better way.

That's how I feel. The creators wanted to make Simba not a perfect King. But in my opinion, they tried too hard, and made Simba an incompetent whiner. Sure, they did not make him a bad king like Scar, but still a bad king never the less. I think that they should have made him better. Not perfect, just better.

I think the ending is great. The bad guys are dead, kovu and kiara are together and simba has completed the circle of life. I also think that when Mufasa says "well done, my son. We are one" is one of the most touching lines of the whole story. The only think I miss in the ending is a flashback over Simba's life.

I agree with you 100%! For me, "Well done, my son. We are one." this is the ending. Not Kovu and Kiara, but Simba. And how Simba finally became a true king.
