Get off yer' bum, Kovu!

This has always bothered me. =P

In the valley scene towards the end of the movie when Kiara is in trouble, why is Kovu not doing anything? It always struck me as completely wrong that Simba was the one to rescue her. I think it was trying to show reconciliation between Simba and Kiara, but it came at the cost of complete OOCness from Kovu who sat on the sidelines and waited for the lioness he loved and lived for to be rescued. This bother anybody else?

Maybe he was frozen with shock that both his mother and his lover were dangling there?

lol, I kinda noticed this as well but I always thought Kovu was just frozen with fear and worry.

I think he was too overwhelmed with emotions to do anything

I sort of assumed Kovu was made of sterner stuff given his years of training under Zira. He doesn't strike me as the kind of lion who sits in frozen shock for five minutes while Kiara cries for help. =P

Well technically Kiara didn't cry for help...
I think he was, as others said, scared, and also maybe he saw Simba going and didn't want to go too incase something happened, ya know?
There was a tragic situation in Australia where a young girl fell into a rapidly running river and four family members jumped in to save her, and only her and one other survived.
Maybe he didn't want to get in the way.

I thought this was kind of strange as well. This lion who even as a cub was called "really brave" by Kiara, saved her from a raging fire as an adult and underwent years of vigorous training by his mother in between just stands on top of the cliff and yells "Kiara!" when her life is in danger, leaving Simba to jump in and save her. It's like Kiara sucked all the fearlessness and tenacity out of him after he spent some time with her as an adult.

I noticed this as well. It's like Disney is trying to say if you fall in love, you can't be brave.
The least he could've done is helped them up. I mean...he just sits and watches as they struggle up the cliff.

What really would've been cool is if he dug his claws into Simba's wrists like Scar did. And then instead of killing him he would help him up. >.> Just a thought.

Seriously though, that's a pretty nasty idea. It plays in perfectly with Simba finally accepting Kovu.
