I turned 11 when TLK cmae out on VHS and I got it just about immediately. So I didn't get to downright grow up with it for too long as a child. I was 14 when SP came out, I think I bought it right away but I don't remember anything from the view or any views afterwards. Nor do I remember regarding it much in any way apart from watching it occasionally. So apparently it didn't impress me much, unlike TLK which I've sen umpteen times since it was released and remember many of those times and have lots of loved memories. But also apparently SP didn't disappoint me either because I don't have negative memories either, and I would watch it any day if someone asked to watch it with them.

The new characters are fine and I heart cubbie Kovu and the concept of Kovu's character over-all. The plot is fine too, though falls flat in comparasion to TLK's intense, dramatic plot. I do wish they'd taken the original a bit more seriously in some things, but to me it seems that they tried. And seeing to certain other Disney classic sequels, especially of late - SP is a masterpiece.

I consider SP, Lady and the Tramp 2 and Fox and the Hound 2 the best sequels Disney's made. (:
I was 2 when Simba's Pride came out.... :'D Wow. So yeah, I loved TLK but SP wasn't great for me x3 I don't have any cherished memories, because TLK wasn't a big big thing in my life, I have just always liked it in general, it was a good movie and probably one of Disneys best at the time x3 Really loved it, it's a shame they don't make movies the same anymore, they are good but they look so realistic now that there is less of a fantasy charm x3

Ah, Lady and the Tramp 2 And The Fox And The Hound 2 were good sequels, but I would have really loved to see something to do with Todd's kits if he ever had any with Vixey x3 I really liked Return To Neverland though, xD The Peter Pan sequel, that's one of my faves, SP was a good movie though, just not as good as TLK x3

Its odd that all the good films were made when Michael Eisner was CEO
Why did they get rid of him

No, no, no. Michael Eisner came and everything went downhill. Michael Eisner took over after The Lion King. He was the one who had the brilliant idea to make low-budget cash cow DTV sequels to every single Disney classic (Seriously, I felt insulted when I got my hands on Hunchback of Notre Dame 2). Most of them are TERRIBLE, the other ones left are simply average. 2000 - 2005 was horrible for Disney.
Eisner wanted to make Snow White 2, Sleeping Beauty 2 and Dumbo 2.
He left on 2004 and those projects were cancelled. John Lasseter (who came after Iger, but that one was there for a small amount of time) from Pixar took over. The Little Mermaid 3, still from Eisner's "reign", was almost completed. Lasseter announced the end of Disney sequels.

(Ok, kinda off-topic but I needed to say it.)

Yes. But from 1984 to 1994 (not including TLK) the main figure was the late Frank Wells, Disney's President and Chief Operating Officer, even though he was Eisner’s second in command. Wells's death caused the dispute between Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg. Eisner refused to promote Katzenberg to the vacated position of president and Eisner forced him to resign. He later co-founded Dreamworks.
Eisner became a much more active figure after 1994, when he picked a new president, an old friend of his.

In 2004, Disney's board wanted to give the chairmanship position to another person and kick him out. Eisner announced that he himself would step down as CEO one year before his contract expired and cut all formal ties with the company.

"Waking Up Sleeping Beauty" directed by Don Hahn covers all these events, from 1984 to 1994. An excellent movie, IMHO.

Agreed.
Eisner should definitely be credited for bringing Disney back to relevance and supporting several important decisions that were made at the time. However, the "renaissance" did end around the time he took over in greater detail.

And the "Waking Up" documentary is awesome. Its a great look behind the scenes. Truly amazing what they accomplished considering how much discord and uncertainty was moving about...

Okay. I know my opinion is probably too late but I'm posting it anyway.

1. Simba's Pride was perfect in my opinion. Its the story line kind of stuff that counts. The small little errors in animation or coloring aren't what makes the movie terrible (I'm not saying it was terrible either! It rocked!). Its not the coloring or perfect character animation that make the movie perfect either.

2. Yes, I know there were tiny flaws here and there but this movie was animated using pencil and paper. Not high-teck computers. The animators can't prevent those tiny flaws.

3. Also (and I'm not trying to be mean or anything), if your going to watch the movie and find all the flaws, then your probably not going to enjoy it. Its the story and the lessons and stuff that matter.

Thats my opinion and I don't mind if you disagree.

Agreed. I've never understood people who watch a movie and then come in to discussions just to pick it apart instead of paying attention to the story, characterisation, and morals of the story. As in the things that make the story come to life. While their complaints are easy to dispute with a little thought put into it because indeed, they seem to have watched the movie just to find something to complain about, instead of watching it an a whole and thus anything that seems like a flaw ends up on their complaint list without further thought to it. :P I'm not saying it's always the case, just very often. And I was talking about movie audience in general, not about this fandom or about anyone specific.

We did pay attention to those things; that's why we had complaints. =P

SP excelled in cuteness and had a good moral, but story strength and characterisation are definitely not where I would look to find SP's strength. Again, I can't say it better than atouchofgrace. It's a direct to video that exists first and foremost to milk the cashcow. Pleasing the real fans was the distant second priority.
