Why exactly did Nala and Simba fall in love?
Sorry if I’m bumping up, but this is something I really care about. The reaction Simba and Nala get when Zazu tells them what being betrothed means, is very interesting. At first it seems plain and simple, they think it’s disgusting. But, there is more to it.

Firstly, it’s typically stereotype for kids to be anti-romantic. Secondly, when somebody shows how much they despise something, the exact opposite could actually be the case.

As for me, I love the romance between them, I’m very passionate about it. Once when I was still living at home, me and my parents watched a quiz show. Suddenly a video was shown with the "Can you feel" scene because the question had something to do with it, and immediately when I saw it, I was all: "Yuck, please switch channel, that is so pathetic", and so on. Why did I say that, when I actually love it? Because I was embarrassed about it.

So maybe the first thing that went through their heads when they heard they were going to be married, is to immediately show the other how disgusting they think it is. Because they are so embarrassed about maybe having a little crush on each other.

I could be dreaming, because I love to think that is the case. But it has a psychological explanation.
I think that theory is very plausible,it most certainly holds water. ;)
It's also possible that, while they were cubs, they obviously liked each other a lot,but not in a romantic way of course, cause while they were so young, they couldn't even understand how that works, nor why they would feel like that, one of the reasons why the reacted to Zazu's statement like they did.
But,as they grew older and matured, they have also began to realize how much they meant to each other and let's say fall in love on distance, even if they didn't see each other.
Even though Nala thought Simba was dead, but you get the point.

That's a very interesting explanation Ivan, and I have to agree with that one

I agree with Flowertall and Ivan. plus, it didn't go as fast as you might think.

personally, I think it was kinda normal for young adults. I mean, when a person of the opposite gender you were close friends with moves back and shows up at school, for example, immediately you might consider dating them. or that's how it goes at my school anyways XD clearly they shared several months as best friends as cubs, which for lions is much longer than it is for people in respect to their lifespan and how quickly they age. it's equivalent to about a decade for them. and I certainly think Nala might have had a crush on Simba when they were young, though I'm not so sure Simba ever thought about her like that. and clearly finding her closest and dearest friend alive again, as well as finding help for the pride, gave her a bit of an emotional rush. he wasn't just a lion she cared about coming back from the dead, but the answer to her prayers in regards to the situation the pride was in that had her leave in the first place. plus, the evening starts out innocently at first. the two of them picking up where they left off, trying to cram everything they missed out on together in about 2.5 years (assuming they're about 3 years old now, which is early adulthood for lions). so now doubt Nala's thinking not only about how much she missed him, but how much she cares about him. judging by Simba's face when she gave him that lick, he was caught totally by surprise. but after realizing her feelings in that moment, he suddenly appears to realize how beautiful she is and how much he cares about her. that doesn't seem too unrealistic to me. typical behavior among teenagers and young adults lol. it seems to me they were trying to get to know each other a little better on that walk afterwards, so it was really more like the dating stage. and then it nearly ended early on because of their argument. when we see Nala asking Timon and Pumbaa where he is, she's probably wanting to make-up for it or at least go back to being friends. not too unusual. and when Scar reveals Simba's secret, the camera freezes on Nala's face for a moment as she realizes that's what Simba had been hiding and now understands his behavior. and given the time it would've taken for the lands to recover, I'd say that gave Simba and Nala several weeks to form a deeper more marital-type relationship. which again, would be equivalent to months for humans which isn't too unusual. then it takes 3 months of pregnancy after that before a lioness gives birth. so overall, I'd say it wasn't as rushed as one might think first off.

of course, I think it could've been a great movie without a love scene. but the love in it technically makes it a greater movie by allowing even more emotion as well as situations in life the audience would enjoy.

About 9 years ago, I wrote a very passionate fanfic about them falling in love after the end of the first movie. I wrote it in a book, so it was never published on the internet, didn’t have a computer then. In that story, I had them confess that they had a crush on each other as cubs, of course that doesn’t make it true, though.

I can tell you, that was some extremely passionate writing, I had that book locked up in a drawer. Also it was technically lousy writing, because it didn’t have much of a plot, just romantic interactions between them. Also it was very naive.

Eventually I ripped the pages in the book out where there was writing, and threw them into the furnace. It would have been too embarrassing if anyone ever got their hands on that.

Why not? It's just like Pumbaa said:
They finally found each other like two soul mates joined across the years by the bounds of true love.

I think it's because they were childhood friends. They were very close and when adults, they realised they were in love. ^_^
