It's one of the few things that 1.5 got right. As much as they messed up everything for the sake of a few cheap laughs (that don't really work), at least they didn't give Timon and Pumbaa girlfriends. Considering that 1.5 is supposed to be the same chronologically as TLK, it would be odd for Timon and Pumbaa to get girlfriends, and then try very hard to get Simba to break up with Nala. I guess that even the 1.5 directors saw such a big logic discontinuity and didn't include it.

Or they simply never thought of it...
