Any truth to TLK4 rumors??

Disney also seems to be going back and forth on their animation strategies...

In the early 2000's, Disney said it was pretty much done with hand drawn animation and wanted to focus solely on the CGI stuff. Then with the "Princess and the Frog" they committed to releasing a hand drawn film every two years. Now I read that after "Tangled" they are stepping away from the Princess line of tales altogether.

Based on what I've seen on the Disney animation site, "Winnie the Pooh" is next and "Ice Queen" is still somewhere in production.

Here's hoping that I'll be pleasantly surprised in either 2011 or 2012!!!
i think weve realised that disney is just not going to make LK 4. There to busy making brillant music like Justin Bieber and Hannah Montana. Thats it wheres my gun
...and films like Tangled which although not perfect, was a lot more true to the classic Disney style than Up for example, and turned out to be quite a nice film. All hope is not lost yet. The biggest problem with a TLK 4 would be the plot, as most people already pointed out. It would most likely have serious flaws, unless they came up with a new story with all new characters,in which case one could hardly call it a TLK sequel anymore..

You have that correct; from my recent studies, I've found they're currently creating a Winnie the Pooh animated short-film with traditional animation. I'm very glad that Disney is deciding to bring back the old times...except for the upcoming sequels. {i.e Monster's Inc. 2; Cars 2}

Yeah, and hopefully there is more to come as well! You never know what the future holds. Ice Queen is currently put on hold I believe, but I sure hope they won't cancel it. The original story has so much potential, I bet they could turn that into something pretty extraordinary if they put enough effort into it!

Without Michael Eisner I doubt it. Every single Disney sequel they were planning got cancelled in 2006 after he left (Snow White 2 was supposed to come out in 2007, they were also talking about Sleeping Beauty 2, Dumbo 2, Lady and the Tramp 3 and some TLK fans said a new TLK was in pre production). John Lasseter said in 2007: "No more sequels to classic Disney movies." Pixar will get the sequels. First some fans said it would come out in 2008, then in 2010 and now in 2012. I doubt it.

The chances you'll see a sequel about SP characters are very small. That would be a sequel (or a prequel or whatever) to a sequel. The original characters are the ones that make all the money. Why would they spend money in a sequel using characters created by a television crew in some other sequel? Yes, SP is rather popular among fans but they want profit and to reach the audience. What about TLK fans that don't like SP, or the general Disney fan who doesn't really care about sequels? TLK is WAY more popular and acclaimed than SP, so it wouldn't make much sense to make a movie about Kovu & friends.

If there's a sequel (which I doubt) I would say it would be either a prequel about Scar and Mufasa (but they would have to find some way to include Simba + Timon + Pumbaa) OR a midquel about Simba's teenage years and Nala's life in the Pridelands. The latter seems the most logical because we all know what happened to Mufasa. What about the happy ending?

But the midquel has problems too. Scar's reign was cut from the original movie because the directors thought it was too depressing. Well, cut to Simba + Timon + Pumbaa living in the jungle, but isn't that just like TLK 1 1/2 all over again?

Also, a fourth movie will break the trilogy thing that is so important to the franchise. ("TLK TRILOGY BOXSET EDITION! BUY IT NOW!"). Yes, TLK 1 1/2 is not a "3" but in my country and in a lot of others it's called The Lion King 3 and the real "3" would always be the 4th movie.

Well, if they made a TLK3 then why not make a TLK4? Who knows? It could be about Kopa :)

its least likely cause the lion king revolves around simba and if there was a tlk4 about scar and mufasa's childhood that wouldnt make sense

I'm not sure they will ever make a sequel involving TLK. The kids in this generation really could care less about it. I'm not saying all children don't like TLK, but I know they would much rather push Pixar films and Princess/Fairies, than TLK. I have a friend that works at WDW and the only thing they have TLK? Festival of The Lion King, and the base theme for the Animal Kingdom Lodge. They announced a new moderate resort with the themes of The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Cars, and Fantasia, but honestly, that's about it.

And another little thing to add to someone's great reasoning behind a logical plot for a TLK4, what about the music? TLK is world renown for its beautiful music and they did a passing job with SP. From what I've heard, Disney is talking about "getting rid" of musical movies in the future. Apparently it isn't as "popular" as it once was.

It's pretty sad actually, but a friend and I have been realizing the slow turn from "girl" movies (like anything Princess or centered around a heroine) to "boy" movies being pushed drastically these next few years. I'm not sure where TLK would fit, if it would fit at all. I guess the only thing to look forward to is that Diamond edition and the hopefully re-release of it into theaters like they did to Beauty and The Beast.

PS: And whoever said Justin Bieber was Disney, boy have you got your pop stars crossed. :/

If they did make that, I'm afraid to say it would have endless flaws. For one, Disney is rarely creating traditionally animated films and probably wouldn't bother doing another. Based on what most Kopa fanatics believe to be true, he ends up with a terrible fate as a cub being killed by Zira. Now, that doesn't sound very Disney-friendly, does it? Even if they did make Kopa defeat some villian (Obviously not Zira since she appears in the sequel; another flaw.), this would still leave the wonder on why they didn't add him in the sequel.

If Disney chose him to run away and make his own pride, that would seem kind of pointless and leaves an almost cliffhanger in it's abscence. Simba would be worried about Kopa and have no idea what happened to him, and the movie just wouldn't turn out well. Also, if Disney created another film after the sequel where Kopa comes back, they would have to tell how and why he left. (If he actually survived. Otherwise we'd have a zombie lion, lol) And if so, who would the bad guy be since all the prides are united? Sure a rogue could come in, but that would hardly make a fight, just one lion. They could make the villian get a group of animals and rebel against the Pridelanders, but for one, why would he? And for two, isn't that a lot like Scar and the original story-line of the first film?

I hate to be what you call a "dream-killer", but I'm afraid it's the truth, and I'm just trying to look at it from all angles.
