I always thought the hyenas ate him alive. :/ But it is possible that they burned, too.

I think the flames killed him.. if the hyenas ran off, it means they left when the flames consumed Pride Rock.

He could of already been dying from the fall, so that's most likely how he died is the hyenas added extra weight. He probably wouldn't of been able to move to protect himself because his back/bones would of been broken.
