It has never bothered me. I’ve never found it disturbing.
Death (and violence) is a part of life, there’s no way you can avoid it. Just because TLK is a Disney movie, doesn’t mean they should take out everything related to serious subjects. Kids need to learn about this stuff too. I watched TLK for the first time when I was 8, and eventhough I was very sad to see Mufasa die, I was never scared by the madness of Scar or the dramatic battle at the end.
On a sidenote, I’m glad Disney decided to actually show the dead body of Mufasa. It felt right for the movie. In Bambi, f.ex the death of the parent is handled in a very different way. We hear the gunshot, and we all know Bambi’s mother didn’t escape the hunter, but we never actually see her body. It would have ruined the mood and innocence of the whole movie..
