I used to hate them when I was younger, then I only hated Timon; now I don't mind them. I think they were important to the movie, otherwise the movie would be so depressing! They're stock characters, comic relief, whatever you want to call them.. And the thing with the sad wildebeest stampede/Mufasa's death was on PURPOSE, they wanted to uplift the mood for viewers. And it worked; didn't it? :zira-approve: And with Timon & Pumbaa, the kiddies wouldn't be so into the movie; can you guess what my little brother's favorite TLK song is? ;)

They are great characters, but I just don't like their personalities. It bothers me that Pumbaa is constantly getting pushed around by Timon, and that he is slightly oblivious when Timon steals his ideas. Timon although he was a good friend for attempting to rescue Pumbaa when Pumbaa ran under a tree root to escape Nala he is still slightly annoying. He talks to fast, he takes advantage of Pumbaa's smart yet simple mind. But I admire that the friendship they both share. But it's a no for me.

Not my favorite characters but I do acknowledge them as important to the story's outcome

They were necessary for the plot because of how they saved Simba and the bit of comic-relief. They're not my favourite characters (anymore, as Pumbaa was at one point), but neither do I dislike them!

In all honesty, they annoyed me slightly but I can see why they were needed in the first film. Just like the gate keeper in Macbeth, they were there to add humour to the film after all the sad and dark scenes. I read an interesting theory somewhere about Timon and Pumbaa where someone said it would be even more interesting if Timon and Pumbaa were figments of Simba's imagination. He created them to help him get over his father's death and grief. This would have been interesting but far too confusing for children. BUT I think I would have liked them more if this was the case as I really don't see the point of them in the second film and 1 1/2 never happened in my opinion :P.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I like them. I have always liked them. I don't understand the people who say they (or TLK 1.5) "ruined" the majesty of TLK. I mean, no they aren't the best characters, and I also would have preferred that the third TLK movie had been about some of the lions than about T&P, but they're still likable characters to me.

Though in SP they don't really act like themselves at all, but then, neither does Nala act like herself in SP.
