The Upendi scene. It's like a bad drug trip in the middle of an otherwise beautiful movie. It just doesn't belong. It's just so...immature....compared to the tone of the rest of the movie. I get that they were going for light and fanciful but it just comes off as weird. I mean, I can leave my "rational" brain at the door of any Disney movie and accept things like talking lions and ghosts of family members coming back from beyond the grave. But Upendi goes beyond suspending rational thought - we're talking parachuting hippos (using heart shaped leaves), Rafiki gathering up stars, lions floating UP hills on a river....
Why couldn't they have made another beautiful "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" sort of sequence for the obligatory "here's where they fall in love" moment?
totally agrees. A whole hell of people hate Upendi.
1st= Upendi
2nd= Kovu's denial of having a part in Zira's plot, when the outlanders attack Simba.[Seriously, what's up with that? Later in the movie, you see he accepts being part of it but admits he doesn't want to be.]
3rd= Kiara thinking Kovu is hiding in this extra tiny patch of grass.[umm...like durr.]
Kovu isn't denying being a part of Zira's plot. I think he's more denying that he had anything to do with luring Simba out to that remote area of the Pridelands. He didn't set the ambush - that's what he really means. Zira did that on her own.
Yes - that tiny patch of grass thing bugs me too.
"Simba, let me tell you something my father told me. Look at the stars. The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars. So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you. And so will I." ~ Mufasa
