High dives FTW. XD
Anyway, yeah. *agress with Pop* If the water was deep, she would'a survived. :)

I disagree, purely because the impact of hitting water from such a fall (no matter how deep) would be fatal.

Well, humans die when they hit the water at a minimum 60 mph. And it was quite clear that Zira was falling very slowly, so she would of lived. However, Disney could of made it slow for effect, but to be honest, that's not likely.

I realize that the fall from the height to which Zira fell from would probably create quite a forceful impact upon landing in the water, yet I think it wouldn't be as bad as if, say, she hit solid ground. I believe the river was deep enough where Zira would have avoided any sharp rocks below the surface, as it took a while for the river to run dry (or so it seemed) at the end of the movie. Yes, the logs could have played a part in Zira's death, yet they could have also helped her if she managed to get hold of one and perhaps float down stream, out of sight from the others. Lionesses actually do have a special coating of membrain in their bodies that help to absorb the shock from rough impacts, due to their hunting styles, yet again, this is basing things more off real life, which probably isn't very accurate for the movies sake. I just think if Scar could survive being tossed off Pride Rock from Simba's kick, than maybe Zira could live too. Who knows though. I just like to assume she's alive cause that's great Fan Fiction / RP fodder like others have mentioned. ^^

Agreed, I was just talking about that with my friends(special coating of membrain, logs, etc.).

Good point about Scar surviving the fall off Pride Rock. He hardly even seemed winded.

I actually think that while it's very convenient to fic writers (me included) that they didn't actually show her dying, I think canon-wise, she's dead.

I think it was actually a cool parallel to Mufasa's death. A fall from a cliff into stampeding Wildebeast spelled death for Mufasa, who was pretty much the biggest strongest lion in the whole storyline. Zira's fall from a similar height into raging water and a bunch of logs (read: a stampede of water and logs) should certainly kill her, since she's about half of Mufasa's size and toughness. I mean, let's be frank: we have Snowy's words, that she would probably die on impact. If she didn't die, the shock of hitting the water should certainly have left her unable to swim her way out of such a violent current. And that's assuming she didn't land on any jagged logs or rocks, or hit any rocks as the flood raged.

It's possible she survived, but I have a hard time saying it's very likely.

Okay I just watched the movie again for this part, and this is what I have:

So, I think we can agree that she could not die from the impact of the water ALONE, but yes it could hurt a lot. But nothing too damaging. Logs, like KM said, they COULD of helped her, but then again, in the movie they showed her reaching out for one but failing. While is possible she could of reached out again and latched on to one, its kind of unlikely. Now if she got hit in the head with a log, she would of got knocked out and, well if she was a human, drown. But thankful she is a lioness, so, she recovers a lot faster than the average human. That said, she could of gotten up and onto shore. That's IF she avoided the jagged rocks, which is about a 50/50 chance. And let's keep in mind that the river became very calm in a few seconds. So thats another good thing for Zira.

All in all, there is about a...hmm...48% chance that she survived? That's what I got from it.

actually, I believe the impact alone could easily have killed her - realistcally, anyway...
