Does it bother anyone else?

Sure. But it's a movie for all ages.
The balance between sad moments and nice moments is in that movie perfect.
Disney has done this well

No it doesn't bother me.

Death is something that children should learn and whilst we shouldn't sugarcoat the fact that death happens, we should also prepare children for the inevitability of what death is about.
To tell you the truth when I was a child, I had some understanding of what death is by the courtesy of disney (Bambi's mum, Mufasa) and Don Bluth's Land before time (when Littlefoot's mother died). These were all very sad but it is a good thing to learn about these life experiences.

Although perhaps it's not one of the best ideas to through one's brother of a cliff face to achieve that.:P

It's part of the plot! If Mufasa hadn't died, Simba would of been so... anyways, Disney movies are all about life lessons and love, so I don't think it really matters. And when little kids watch it, they either learn something, or they just don't pay attention, and never notice it. TLK is for all ages, and anyone, even grown ups can learn from it!

I remember thinking the same thing when i watched it for the first time as an older person but then i thought back about when i watched it as a kid and i don't think it really affected me in anyway so i just figured whatever. Besides, if those things hadn't happened the way they did the film wouldn't have been the masterpiece it is and most of us probably wouldn't even be here.

Not really. Considering his mean nature towards Simba...I think it's only realistic for him to try to kill him for the throne. That's called selfishness for ya. I don't find it disturbing at all. :/

^This.

Also, most of the Disney films have darker elements to them.

Not really. I watched TLK every day when I was a couple of years old, and loved it. (:
