Has the Lion King held up?

Well, I just watched it, and it's holding up for me. Still as fun, and also as deep and meaningful, as the first time I watched it.

^ It basically means does the Lion King still do as well as it did, and has the same amount of magic and amazement it did when it first came out ^.^

Traditional animated movies tend to be more "timeless" than CGI movies when it comes to animation.
TLK definitely held up though time with its top notch animation and soundtrack. The story is charming, the characters loveable, the story well-balanced and anyone can easily understand or relate to the morals it teaches.

The movie itself is not perfect but, since it was launched in theaters 18 years ago, it has been able to stand out from other animation movies (or movies in general) with its irresistible charm. Do you all remember how the movie was #1 or in the top of the list at the box-office when they re-released it a year ago and how it remained there for weeks?

This movie, like many musical, theatrical or artistic classics, will definitely still be considered great and hold up in the generations to come.
What do you mean by held up?
How has the movie aged now that it has been out as long as it has and the flaws have been pointed out?
The real way to describe the term would be - would the film be as huge if it released for the first time today as it was when it released in the 90s?

And I would say that yes it has stood the test of time. Although I may get older and kind of grow away from it and such, that does not mean I think the film has lost its quality as well. It is still very much a film I will be showing my children, because it has a good message and is quite frankly still a joy to watch. The animation, even though we have almost entirely shifted to CG animation now, is still leagues above a lot of modern releases, the soundtrack is still a master-class in how to score a movie. This film set a benchmark and yes there have been other incredible films that have tapped into that mark since then, nothing has really raised the bar as significantly as this did.
And until someone manages that (quite frankly, I doubt that ever WILL happen, at this point) then the film will continue to age as well as it has.

I think so, if you compare it to something like Aladdin, which came out at a similar time. Don't get me wrong, I love Aladdin, but it contains a lot of early 90s pop culture references that are less relevant now. TLK doesn't really have those.
