What happened to Pumbaa's family?

Well, like I mentioned before, I personally don`t think Pumbaas family abandoned him. I believe Pumbaa simply left when he became old enough to take care of himself. Then, when he tried to get his own territory/make a home for himself in a different area, the animals couldn`t stand to be around him because of his stench.. so they drove him out. After that, he wandered aimlessly as an outcast, not being able to settle anywhere because none of the other animals could handle the smell. Then, he met Timon.

I just dislike the thought of Pumbaas family being so cold to someone of their own kind. They`re all warthogs, so I reckon they all have problems with various odours.
While TLK1&1/2 gave a definitive origin for Timon, since there was practically no mention of Pumbaa's backstory, one could say that the origin episode from the Timon & Pumbaa series still stands as canon, at least until disproven like Timon's.
The episode in question is called Home Is Where The Hog Is.

:icky: I think Pumbaa's Family run away him... You know why..

Read the words that are
written in my face
Oh I believe them..
It's a shame that they
lost their head
A careless man who
could wind up dead
You wear your sin like
it's some kind of prize
Too many lies,

Well, here's the story:

Spoiler: show
Pumbaa's village did not like him because of his smell, but Timon and Pumbaa came back to help with a bird problem. Pumbaa was in love with a Pink warthog! They saved everyone in the end.

I'm not sure, but I really wish they had covered Pumbaa's past in the movie. D: It's not fair that they only told half the story. I wish we could have found out what happened to Pumbaa. Maybe his parents died or something? I don't know.

I think maybe they were attacked by heyenas, eaten, and killed, and Pumbaa was the only one who survived.
I am also a big fan of: Phantom of the Opera, High School Musical, Harry Potter, Disney in general, Days of Our Lives, musicals in general, Dr. Seuss in general and the Grinch.

There are two semi-official origin stories for Pumbaa. "Home is Where the Hog Is" and the Hakuna Matata story "All Mud and Motor Mouth".

In "Home is Where the Hog Is", he was part of a group of warthogs (a sounder) and even had a girlfriend (Shala). His family is never mentioned in the episode*, but it's made clear he was eventually banished because of his stench. In "All Mud and Motor Mouth", however, he is so crazy about wallowing in mud holes that even his own family grows to dislike him, and Pumbaa decides to leave his family rather than give up his beloved mud. (Interestingly, Pumbaa's family doesn't have any real names. His father is called "Pa", and his mother is just..."Ma.")

*EDIT: he does, however, have an aunt in "Don't Wake the Neighbear", an uncle named Boaris in "Russia Hour" and a cousin named Mildred (mentioned in the same episode).

OK, I have to admit something. Since I don't consider LK 1/2 canon, I still think of Timon's origin story from the series as being canon. I really liked it better, to be honest. Also, Iconsider the whole series canon.

^Well I'm definitely not going to bite you for what you said above. But I do have to mention that the episode I know you're referring to about Timon in the T&P show, is completely unrealistic for him and doesn't make sense.

Meerkat city? I mean, come on. Disney itself was obviously just wanting to impress kids, and also because of the fact that they were using this TV show to compete with other more popular 90s cartoon shows. This is also another good reason why TLK 1 1/2 was made.

Timon's Real story in this TLK film is different and unique because of the fact that it does make a lot more sense, had support from those who worked on the original TLK film, and I can relate to the issues he experienced here that causes him to leave his colony (this is how actual meerkats live). It is just well down to earth and actually has some seriousness to it if I might add, and not some kind of gag like it was in "Timon and Pumbaa".

I can't say the same for Pumbaa in this film, because TLK 1 1/2 makes it clear that it's definitely Timon's own story. But of course, that never bothers me. Image
