FlipMode wrote:It's a death scene.. Usually the idea is to evoke emtion by the viewer. Plus the fact that it was his father, which people can relate to sometimes.

And IMO the scene where Mufasa died (or rather, is dead) is 50 % of the movie's negative emotions (the other 50% being the end, Simba walking up Pride Rock). It was a magnificent scene, especially at the time for Disney to suddenly come out with something so emotionally disrtaughting and probably still one of the best moments in cinema history.

And Scar in that scene... Oh my "If it wasn't for you, he'd still be alive" "What will your mother think?" That is insanely evil, like really... How could you say that? XD

This ^^

Used to be the saddest moment ever for me. But there are more emotional scenes if you just look around.

It's actually a bit corny when you get down to it. If Scar had only remained silent instead of saying the line he had been rehearsing for years. Also, I know it's Disney, but just a little blood would hit a lot harder. Not enough to scare kids, but kids can see blood and not flip out. They are not as weak as we see them. Just a little stab wound or something. It's little nitpicks like that that hold it back from being emotionally heartbreaking for extended periods of time. I actually find that in Season 3 of MLP FiM's pilot, the final showdown with King Sombra is more emotional and better done than this scene. Sorry, but I think it's true.

lol, well I was apologizing to those people. Let's face it, Mufasa was only there to die. It fuels the story, and even though he's likable, it's futile to think of him more than just dead-meat.

He wasn't just dead meat, he was an important character for two reason. One; the reason you said, dying, and two, the clouds scene.
