I would love the idea that what we're seeing is a long time after the event of TLK - and whilst many of the characters might have forgotton exactly what happened, we know. I don't know why, I just love these long timespans in works of fiction. Like in Harry Potter, After the seventh book the protagonists have grown up - yet we can still go back and read about thing that seem so insignificant now. I can't really describe it :L
