Ironically you may have just answered your own question right there. It is either a lapse in frames of animation (which does happen in fast moving action sequences sometimes). Or more likely, action scenes are supposed to be "OTT" in terms of what is happening in them. I mean there is this film I watched recently called "Con Air", and in it there was a bit where Nicholas Cage was walking down a plane, GOT SHOT, and continued walking... I mean really he absorbs the bullet like a sponge... I mean if it were Chuck Norris then fair enough, but it was not!
So what I am trying to say there is that action based scenes like this are often unrealistic, to make it better for viewers which could be another possible answer.
