The real fact is that when the first Lion King movie was made, due to its uncertain nature (boom or bust), it was made without the planning for any sequels. Frankly, I think that this made The Lion King a better movie, but I digress. What this does mean is that we didn't see any outsiders in the battle because they simply didn't exist yet.
Now for my opinion as for what happened canon-wise. All of the lionesses present in the fight were brought there by Nala, who gathered them to help Simba challenge Scar. ("Nala, you go and rally the lionesses...") This means that Nala would only have gotten those lionesses which she knew would help her and Simba. And seeing as the outsiders are aligned with Scar, I simply think that Nala knew enough not to bring them to the fight, should they pull an Italy and change sides in the middle of the battle and let Scar win.
So why didn't we see outsiders there? Because they weren't there.
