If Kiara doesn't want to be queen, who will be Simba's heir?
Well, Scar wasn't the rightful king. He would have been if Simba had died.
Can't argue with you, there. Scar was an unrightful king, but he can still pick and choose any lion to be his successor just as any righful monarch of the Pridelands can. Therefore, Kovu does a legitimate right to the throne.

I feel that by the end of the movie, Kiara has accepted her role in the Pride and is happy to become Queen. With Kovu by her side, she can do anything.

I agree with TPAM ;D If Kiara didn't wanna be Queen...perhaps Simba could hand choose someone else like Scar did with Kovu ^^ *takes bite of Crunch Bar and thinks* I can't think of anything else other than a chosen heir xP

I agree with PrincessKiara. I think Kiara would make a great queen when she grows up, because I think she is shown as only a teenager at the end. Kovu will not have as many powers as her. Although in a book of TLK it states that a female cannot rule (which is pure BS), I think Kiara is the rightful queen and whoever her cubs are are set to rule next.

I don't think Kovu had any legitimate to the throne. Because he was not chosen by a king of Pridelands. I mean, Scar was seemingly the king but not really in legal matters, so his choice did not give anyone any real rights when it came down to the true kingdom.

I don't think it was an option for her. She was the only blood heir of the king and the only person trained to rule, so she'd had to take the crown whether she liked it or not. But if it came down to her threatning to leave if they tried to make her, I believe Simba would've trained Kovu into a ruler and given the crown to him if Kovu wanted it. As Simba apparently came to trust Kovu and think well of him, and Kovu was to be a king anyway thtough marriage to Kiara. Simba would try to solve the problem with as little risk and trouble as possible, and this way the only thing that would change is which one of the anyway intented couple holds the crown/is the law.

Pretty smart answer, WhiteFang. However, I disagree with you on Kovu's legitimacy to the throne of Pride Rock. In The Lion King II, it is mentioned many times that he is Scar's heir, and when Zira told Simba that Kovu was hand-chosen by Scar to become king, Simba took that very seriously. Enough to growl at him which made poor Kovu  knowing he is a rival to him. So, if it is taken seriously that Kovu is Scar's heir and has a legitimate right to the throne, then, Kovu is a legitimate heir. On top of that, Scar is of royal blood, and when Mufasa died and Simba disappeared, the pride had no choice but to accept Scar as their king (until Simba arrived) so Kovu had a right to the throne only through Scar.

Also, Kiara doesn't have to take the throne if she doesn't want to. If the kingdom in The Lion King movie universe is the same as kingdoms in our world, then, take into consideration that Edward VIII of the United Kingdom chose something similiar such as to abdicate from the throne when he wanted to marry an American socialite, which British officials wouldn't allow.

Even if she is threatened to leave the throne, true, Simba could train Kovu to become King, but if he wants to leave with Kiara and has no interest in the throne, then, Vitani would have the right only through Kovu alone since a sibling of a royal heir are entitled to the throne. If she doesn't want the throne, the Pridelands is pretty much screwed.

My point was that as Simba was alive, the throne was his also during Scar's reign. And thus Scar's choice for future ruler did not become legitimate, not even with Scar too having royal blood. SP suggests otherwise only through Zira who apparently thought Simba was never the rightful king. I believe Simba growled at Kovu because he was a threat through his mother thinking him as legitimate rival, even though he really was not.

So, if Kiara didn't take the crown, and Kovu didn't take Simba's offer, the Pridelands would've been screwed. Or perhaps Simba would've tried for another cub, but what are the odds of succession at such an old age? Or perhaps they would've trained one of Kiara's cubs to become the next ruler?

But I also meant that if Kovu and Kiara stayed in Pridelands but they just made Kovu the ruler instead of Kiara to prevent her from wanting to leave.
Well, in that case they are smart enough to put the next person in the chain of power in to the royal spot. Hence Nala would become the queen.
Nala IS the queen already. But I guess you meant she'd become the actual ruler. I would think they'd rather train someone who has more years to give to the job and who is more likely to produce an heir to the yet another generation.
It is debatable that Kovu is of Royal blood because it is a possibility that Scar is his father, hence he is related to Simba.
Yes, it is debatable, but there is no possibility that Kovu is Scar's son because the official film denied twice he isn't Scar's son.
My point was that as Simba was alive, the throne was his also during Scar's reign. Okay, okay. I get what you are saying, and that's why Simba had to take his rightful throne from Scar. I watched The Lion King way too many times not to know that. As far as my argument goes, we both made good points, and I enjoy a good argument; it gets my brain thinking. But, it is debatable over whether Kovu was a legitimate heir to the throne (through Scar alone), but I do give you credit that it was Zira who thought Kovu is entitled to the throne, as she called him a "prince".

About your second argument, I did state in my opening that if Kiara doesn't take the throne, and if Kovu doesn't want to be Simba's heir, then, Simba and Nala might as well, mate again. Again, another point well mentioned that Kiara's cub can be a successor of Simba.
Well, in that case they are smart enough to put the next person in the chain of power in to the royal spot. Hence Nala would become the queen.
I doubt Nala can be a Queen in her own right, because she is not a heir of Simba nor does she has any royal blood.
