I suppose your right. What always bugged me about the ending of TLK was the fact that there were so many hyenas and the Pride actually managed to take them down, but needed Simba to do it. I mean seriously, if you're going to be able to take down an impossibly large amount of hyenas with Simba, how come you can't take them down without him? It seems stupid.
I don't think they did manage to take them down. Scar with his words turned the hyenas against him for good, and those who didn't go eat Scar, probably didn't bother to fight anymore as there was really nothing to fight for with the wasteland Pridelands had become, and knowing Simba would exile them anyway... They probably just left to look for a bettwe place to live in.
This leads me to the one thing I've always wondered: why did the hyena stick around the elephant graveyard, starving, and kept stealing in to Pride Lands though they weren't allowed to? Why didn't they just go and look for another savannah? It's not as if the Pride Lands covered the entire Africa. The same with the Outlanders from SP. I mean, I do see why Zira would want the Pride Lands, but the rest? So I'm guessing this is just Disney's stupidity as their main concern is to have suffering, bitter villains whether it makes sense for them to be that or not, in a more indepth look. Or, could there be a reason why the hyenas and all Outlanders wanted Pride Lands and no other place?
So whether you consider the hyenas to be the main evil behind all of it is up to you. I mean, in the end Scar says that it was the hyenas, it was all their fault. What if it was? What if the hyenas controlled Scar when he was younger and though he came up with the plans, the hyenas threatened him etc? I mean that might be true, the hyenas could've killed Scar at the end because he betrayed them x3 If you get what I mean anyway :9
They did kill Scar after he betrayed them. But I think it was just the letitng them go hungry though he had promised they never would and blaming them on Mufasa's death. Scar was refering to the murder of Mufasa as the hyenas' idea and fault. Technically it was one of the hyenas who first said "Kill Mufasa!" but Scar's reaction clearly told that he had planned it himself before.
Also, I don't think the hyena's ever controlled Scar. Scar refered to them as idiots and his body language was of someone who thinks he's above them. Also, Scar seemed like a highly intelligent individual who prefered to be alone and only occasionally visited the hyenas to use the or to feed them in hopes to gain their loyalty (which he in the end did, though apparently at least the trio still considered him first and foremost an equal, a 'pal'. Which would also imply they didn't control him - they just didn't respect him either.)
I believe Scar blamed the hyenas because he knew Simba had been raised to believe the hyenas are bad guys, while he [Simba] had loved him [dear uncle Scar] a lot - as in Scar held on to whatever little hope there was left to make Simba consider he [Sacr] had been influenced instead of being the influence. Scar had used that psychology before: "Oh, Simba, you're in trouble again. But this time Daddy isn't here to save you. And now they all heard why." Hence, the word choice 'Daddy' - he even put slight emphasis on it as he spoke. He was trying to hit where Simba was the most vulnerable. He knew Simba was likely still very much a child inside after all that had happened, and that certainly Simba was a total Daddy's boy. This would lead into a chance that he'd believe the hyenas are the enemy and not the family member. And Scar succeeded to an extent, to bring out the child in Simba: as even after the confession Scar had made, some part of Simba still considered that Scar might not be as evil as he seemed, but didnt trust him anymore. ("Why should I believe you? Everything you ever told me was a lie.")
So, in my eyes, Scar was the furthest thing from someone who could be controlled by anyone. Not even Mufasa knew what he should do with Scar. No, I totally think Scar was the mastermind and the main evil of the story all along.
