Well in the real savanna there is sand to of course it is not all gras

And not completely covering it. The ash was coating the area surrounding the fire and left the plants untouched when lifted.

That's what we've been saying, Snow would have been much more devastating and the ash is easily recognized.

I always got the impression that it was dust, or sand. Those two are fairly common in Africa (think Egypt). But TRP's explanation makes more sense with me, so I'm going with that one lol. :)

Most are in South Africa, but there is still sand in the area. Although I am sticking with my ash theory.
