Get off yer' bum, Kovu!

I've noticed this, and I have to agree. While the idea of Simba diving in to save Kiara was nice, considering the tension they went through...it makes absolutely no sense that Kovu would just sit there and do nothing. I can understand the argument of him not wanting to get get in the way...but surely once Kiara and Simba were safe he would have done SOMETHING to help them back up to safety.

Even after he fell in love with Kiara, Kovu was never the type to sit on the sidelines and watch like that. When Zira ambushed Simba earlier in the movie, he dived striaght in, trying to help Simba...why wouldn't he do so now, for the one he loved?

And I agree with Moka's idea too...that sounds awesome! Too bad the writers didn't think of that.
I noticed this as well. It's like Disney is trying to say if you fall in love, you can't be brave.
The least he could've done is helped them up. I mean...he just sits and watches as they struggle up the cliff.

What really would've been cool is if he dug his claws into Simba's wrists like Scar did. And then instead of killing him he would help him up. >.> Just a thought.
Omg that wouldv'e been awesome!

*chuckles at the title*
I have to agree with Moka really. All he does is shout, "Kiara!" and then watches everything. At least give Simba a hand, Kovu!
Don't get me wrong, I love Kovu (who doesn't?), but he does seem out of character in that particular moment. Though he might be worried about what Zira would do?

It's been mentioned many times before on this forum and others, but something that would have made this scene a lot more kick-butt would be if Simba tried to save Kiara but realized that he couldn't pull her to safety on his own, then looked up to see Kovu standing above him, pleading for Simba to trust him so that he could help rescue both of them. This would reflect Simba's nightmare from earlier in the film, and force him to trust Kovu in order to save Kiara's life.

[blatant plug]I actually worked this scene into my alternate version of SP, "The Pride That Never Was"[/blatant plug]

It seems strange to me that the always strong and independant Kovu suddenly goes into an uncharacteristic phase of do-nothing type attitude. You think he could have at least tried to help.

Like it was mentioned earlier, I`ve always assumed Kovu was frozen and perplexed with shock and fear at seeing his mate and mother tumble off a cliff.

I`d still think he should have snapped out of it and actually done something instead of just looking on. But like someone else said, the animators probably thought it was more fitting for Simba to be the hero and rescue Kiara, and so creating a special moment between them.. Also, they could have thought it would be too much for Kovu having to see his mother fall to her death.

It`s never really bothered me, but I agree that it`s not like Kovu to stand by and do nothing. Then again, I think he`s quite soft inside, regardless of Ziras training... :P

If you think about it deeply enough maybe it does make sense that he was frozen with shock. Remember that scene when he was a cub and was trying to flee from the crocodiles with Kiara? Kovu just held on to the tree trunk and screamed when the crocodile came toward him. If it wasn't for Kiara he would of probably been eaten lol.
It also makes sense that he did know what was going on but didn't want to intrude, thinking he might get himself killed too and assuming Simba could handle it on his own (pretty dumb if you ask me lol) Or he just wasn't willing to help, being afraid to screw up and get banished again, since at that point Simba still didn't trust him completely... I still find that way out of character for Kovu but w/e lol :P

as I remember, Kovu saw his mother die anyway, so that probably wasn't it. It does seem rather odd Kovu would ever let Simba try to save anyone on his own.

Yes, it annoyed me that all Kovu did was yell "Kiara!"
