I can see the resemblance, but Disney would never try to make Kiara look like Kopa... They're trying to hide Kopa's existence.

To be honest, I don’t think the animators were trying to hide Kopa’s existence, maybe they don’t even know about him. The Disney books and comics (including TLK6NA) is written by completly different people, not the ones who work on the films.

In the early version of SP, Kiara was going to have a brother named Chaka. If the animators knew about Kopa, why not simply use him, why create a new character in his place? Anyway, with the whole Romeo and Julie story, Kiara having a brother wouldn’t work out, so Chaka was dropped.

I think it seems easy for the animators to dismiss characters from books as unofficial.. Sadly.

I think the makers of SP were different people then the makers of TLK6NA.. but it is a funny coincidence this still of the movie, I think.

Actually they didn't know about the books until fans started asking about Kopa, and since then they're trying to hide his existence and don't even consider him as an official character.

That sucks. I thought they didn`t know about the books and Kopa, but it`s such a shame that they choose to ignore him. I think characters from books and comics can be considered official, even if they never appear in any of the films.

No, I do not believe it was meant to confuse us.

I think that it just was a cute little tidbit they added to lighten up Kiara's mood slightly. As most of the fans know, having a tuft a hair on a lion's head indicates they are a teenage/adolescent male. It was just something cute to make Kiara seem like a guy but she really wasn't. A little humor never hurts. ^^
