Simba obviously has no problem holding people to their word, but he seems to have some trouble keeping his own promises.
In TLK, Cubby Simba wakes up Mufasa: "You promised [to show me the kingdom today]!"

Later, as an adult, he remembers that Mufasa told him that the great kings of the past and Mufasa himself would always be there for him, yet he feels this isn’t true, so he shouts to the sky: "You said you’d always be there for me, but you’re not.." Simba makes sure to hold Mufasa to his word, right?
Now, as a cub Simba lies and breaks his promise to several members of his family.
He promises his Uncle Scar that he won’t "visit that dreadful place," and he lies to Sarabi about where he’s taking Nala. Later, in the gorge, Simba wants Scar to tell him about the "surprise," and says "If you tell me, I’ll still act surprised."
In SP, when Kiara is going on her first hunt, he promises her that he’ll let her to it alone, yet two seconds later he sends Timon and Pumbaa after her. I know he means well, but she shouldn’t have broken his word to his daughter.
I also want to mention that in one of the TLK6NA books, Simba has promised Kopa to show him the kingdom, but when Kopa mentions this, Simba is too busy and says they can’t do it. At the end of the book, after hearing a story from Rafiki, Simba realizes how important it is to keep a promise and takes Kopa on a tour after all. So he does keep his word sometimes too, lol.
What do you think?
