It is all really powerful stuff, or it would not be the continuing force it is. Now at this time I don't think I'm able to decide.

At the time though, when it first came out & I was just seeing it for the first time, it was the unexpected rush of the whole thing developing & coming along and then Wow! The Hyenas checked Scar. And I went, Ohhh s**t 8D

....that was the moment I realized I had just watched something multi-layered and multi-textured that was a lot more than anything I expected from a Disney flick.


The next time I saw it in theaters, I gave the Hyenas a little more thought, and when the scene switched from Under the Stars to the part preceding Be Prepared when they're waiting for Scar to meet them (well, when Shenzi was at least, LOL,) it dawned on me all in an instant like a lightbulb illuminating a huge room--These critters have their own thing going on, their own little lives & space & time-killers, their own society & home turf, OUTSIDE of just the parts they play & the things they do in the movie.


It was an epiphany. A hundred games with my 2 best friends over that year was born in that moment. TWO lifelong obsessions were born in that moment.

FANDOM was born in that moment.


So even though there are much more soaring, much more mythic and profound, meaningful and powerful parts in the movie, those two, to me, will always be my favorites.

The part from Simba and Nala's reunion to the end.

More specifically, the part that begins with this: "Ahh, so you haven't told them your little secret. Well, Simba, now's your chance to tell them. Tell them who is responsible for Mufasa's death!"

I still say that it's the scene where Rafiki takes Simba to the magical pool. I know it's akin to treason to say it, but I like the scene right before Mufasa's ghost more than Mufasa's ghost itself.

When I was a kid watching it for the first time I was really drawn into the more actiony sequences like the elephant graveyard chase and the stampede, because I loved their fast pace and the energy they gave me.

Now that I'm old (and boring ) the more emotional parts of the movie are the ones that grab me, like Mufasa's ghost, "Under the Stars" and even in particular the discovery of Mufasa's body. As sad as it makes me I think it's just so well done in the way the scene is written and how it plays out on screen.

For old time's sake though I think I'll say the elephant graveyard is my favorite part of the film. It had the potential to be a very bland chase scene like others I have seen in different films but it is very creatively done in all the twists and turns Simba and Nala run into as they try to escape. Plus we get the first time that Mufasa's love and devotion for Simba is shown (my favorite theme from the movie).
